Atheists... why the heck are you on RELIGIOUS forums?!

an anarchist

Your local anarchist.
I’ve seen a few religious people on this site complain about the general presence of atheists on RF.
I mean, it’s called RELIGIOUS forums. So they say.
Do atheists have a place on this site? I feel like the answer is obvious, but maybe it could be addressed.
The obvious answer is yes.
So, atheist, why the heck are you here? What draws you to a religious site? Are there no adequate atheist forums?
I have this thread in the debate forum, rather than the Q&A, because, if you feel like irreligious people don’t have a place on this site, I’m interested in why. I’ve seen it said on this site, so let’s hear why you think there should only be religious people on RF.

It's a topic I enjoy discussing.

Well, here is part of the answer.
It is about values.
"Religion is the most comprehensive and intensive manner of valuing known to human beings."
What is Religion?

And what religion actually is:
religion | Definition, Types, List of Religions, Symbols, Examples, & Facts

And how at least some atheists in practice have an organized religion:
"...
Definitions
Atheism is the comprehensive world view of persons who are free from theism and have freed themselves of supernatural beliefs altogether. It is predicated on ancient Greek Materialism.

Atheism involves the mental attitude that unreservedly accepts the supremacy of reason and aims at establishing a life-style and ethical outlook verifiable by experience and the scientific method, independent of all arbitrary assumptions of authority and creeds.

Materialism declares that the cosmos is devoid of immanent conscious purpose; that it is governed by its own inherent, immutable, and impersonal laws; that there is no supernatural interference in human life; that humankind, finding the resources within themselves, can and must create their own destiny. It teaches that we must prize our life on earth and strive always to improve it. It holds that human beings are capable of creating a social system based on reason and justice. Materialism’s ‘faith’ is in humankind and their ability to transform the world culture by their own efforts. This is a commitment that is, in its very essence, life-asserting. It considers the struggle for progress as a moral obligation that is impossible without noble ideas that inspire us to bold, creative works. Materialism holds that our potential for good and more fulfilling cultural development is, for all practical purposes, unlimited."

I said >this< way back but little has changed.

No, of course atheists should all just bugger off and leave the religious to exist in their own closed little bubbles - bumping up against each other (the ones with a different religious belief) if they have the necessary patience, fortitude, and urge to waste their time - but one added perspective (the atheists) is somehow intolerable?

Why other than one confirmed in their beliefs and not open to other perspectives would any want to exist on a forum with such a uniform spread of opinions and beliefs? Religions have a large impact all over the world - so why wouldn't any who see such, but also see the harms they cause, want to interact with those having such beliefs, even as to understanding why they have such?

This old complaint has been recycled too often.

Would you rather have your beliefs confirmed or challenged? The answer to such should tell you how valid your beliefs likely are.

That is also valid to atheists beyond our being atheists.

Of course, and being so, the religious should welcome as many atheists as they can, given there are obviously more opportunities to change them and bring them into the light from the dark. Tough if they don't succeed though. :D

Personally i enjoy the company of most people here, but not all.

I have learned a lot about various religions (at least 2 i didn't even know existed), expanded my knowledge of science and had a few laughs on the way.

And its far more civilised than the food fight at the last forum i played in

Well, that is an example. You are doing black versus white thinking or if you like the fallacy of the false dilemma.

I am a Orthodox Hindu though a strong atheist, so this question really does not point to me.
But does RF say that is is only for the religious? Does RF sign-up refuse to take atheist as members?
Why, they are here to preach of course.
Preaching is unacceptable in RF (at least by their rules), though all, the religious as well as non-religious, do it all the time. :)
