Japanese Integrity/Honesty

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
Man mistakenly sent entire $358,000 COVID relief fund for his town's low-income households, gambles it away in 2 weeks

Japanese man gambles away his entire towns Covid relief payments in less than 2 weeks. So much for integrity. But he did, turn him self in so there's that I guess.

What would you have done?

I probably would have quizzically phoned my bank before touching the money.
Almost don't blame the man technically, but true, he should have got a verifiable claim there was no 'mistake' first. At least he would have had a better defense that he checked to make sure in a best case what if scenario.

As for me , I would have it sitting in a interest generating account before I moved it along! *grin*

This story is about one individual. Why does the OP label it as Japanese, as in all of Japan???

Because the entire time I lived in Japan their Honesty and Integrity was something I admired. This just happens to be counter to that image I have.

The deeper he got in hole, the more he'll have been convincing himself that he was about to win it all back on the next throw. The honour was in him holding his hands up when the spree was all played out.

This is more of a gambler's problem than a particular national problem. Gamblers have a mental blindness. Its why gambling probably should be illegal. One might say that whoever provided the gambling entertainment took the town's covid relief funds.

I'm not saying the man bears no responsibility. He does, but I think his problem is shared by random individuals all over the world. But yes he should have not gambled the money. Most people would not have been that stupid: believing that there was a decent chance to win. There was never a decent chance for him to win.

And you feel that the actions of one man warrants a reference to the ethnicity shared by some one hundred and twenty million people?

It doesn't specify how he gambled it, as I was wondering if he blew it on black jack, poker, slots, horse racing, or what it might have been.

Maybe he thought it was his lucky day.

On the mobile phone I was thinking like mobile video games. Loot packs are basically gambling.
