After a year on RF...

an anarchist

Your local anarchist.
So I’ve been on RF for almost a year (2+ weeks away). I introduced myself a month later with the following thread.
Hello! New member introducing himself!
I outlined my then current philosophy. It has changed. I still agree with my thesis I guess, though I am no longer a syncretist. My views on religion has changed, my views on anarchism remain the same. My eschatological views remain the same, minus the Jesus part. I am now a likely deist. I was naive I think and also hopeful that all religions were truly from god and everyone was right!
I came to this site thinking that I was gonna be teaching y’all and bring you guys over to syncretic anarchism. I was really wrong. I have an open mind, a strength of mine. Having an open mind led me from being a Christian republican to being a syncretic anarchist. Continuing my journey while on this site, I even identified as a Baha’i for a week a few months ago. Yet, upon further investigation, I found myself unable to be a Baha’i.
I never imagined that I would abandon my Christianity or theism altogether, yet here I am. This site had a role in that, it’s not complete responsible, but I had and read discussions with people here with an open mind, and I was convinced of their arguments against theism.
Where will this next year lead me? I may very well revert back to my Christianity. Maybe I’ll abandon the god belief altogether and become atheist. Maybe, after further exploring deism, I’ll like where I’m at. Maybe I’ll no longer be an anarchist and become a filthy statist :D:p
There’s one thing I know for certain, though. My beliefs will not be the same as they are now. Why? Because I intend to learn and grow, and I have an open mind!
Thank you all for cultivating my education through free discussion of ideas.

We radical liberal leftists are currently scheming to convert you to classical Anarcho-syndicalism and, thence, to full-out Socialism.

Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Most who leave make a kind of shallow
suborbital flight out of their religion, but,
gravity and all presently fall back intoq it.

I wonder why you'd care to classify as
"A" something? A anabolic synreticist
or whatevs

For example I dont believe in any god but
dont call myself an atheist.

Im just me.

Good to see. And congratulations on your growth. It seems that you learned that you didn't benefit from a god belief or a religion, and so left them both behind. Congratulations. Now you can avoid the endless dithering arguing about religious dogma, and focus on the reality around you, which is where we live and where life plays out.

Speaking of which, I recorded and watched a Muslim cable show out of Toronto to see what kinds of things Muslims are being told, and what I saw was continuous distraction from reality and relevance. The entire message was that one should essentially always be praying to Allah for mercy (istifighar is the Arabic word, which I heard at least a dozen times - enough to remember this strange word). This was the only message in this episode. Then, after a series of still advertising podcasts and the like, came the ads for the Muslim schools, grades 1-12. Nonstop indoctrination and distraction from life.

I wish I could link to it to share it, but what I found instead is another episode of the same show from the same speaker, all about obedience and conformity this time. At 10:23 (link embedded), one can see the ads for the schools that I saw in the previous episode immediately following the podcast ads. At 12:44, he began soliciting donations, which I didn't see in the other episode ("Make your donation conveniently online using your credit cards. We hope you can respond today with a generous donation to the Islamic Forum.")

I saw something similar when I did the same with a Protestant cable show. It was several minutes of discussing a story in Kings about Elijah, and trying to make that relevant to modern life, which was a stretch. You see, Elijah's faith was sorely tested, as will yours be, and as Elijah was steadfast in the ways of the Lord, so should you be. Then the solicitation for "love donations."

So, congratulations for extricating yourself from all of that. They want your mind and your money, but what do they offer of value in return? Now you can turn your attention away from begging forgiveness and remaining obedient to a dogma to things that matter to YOU, not them. It's just not good for any of us to think of ourselves as needing forgiveness from a deity simply for being human. If you explore humanism, I think you'll find a more healthy and uplifting message about humanity, one that is life affirming and cast the individual in the role assigned to gods and their self-described spokespersons in these religions as the author of his life. Perhaps you noticed that nothing got done and no answers were found praying or reading scripture. Something allowed you to move on.

And to the theists reading along, it's fine if religious belief meets some need you have and you satisfy it that way, but I think it's better to have no such need. My analogy is with eyeglasses. It's great that if you need them that you can have them, but isn't it better to have no such need? Isn't this poster better off outside of religion if he doesn't need it for anything?
