Ten people today were massacred by a mass shooter at a Tops Markets Grocery Store on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York. The 18-year-old white male gunman livestreamed onto a social media platform his hate crime killing of black people. He surrendered and was taken into custody at the scene of the crime. Most everybody in America is fed up with this repeated mass shooting gun violence. High-capacity magazines of the firearms used by mass shooters enable them to massacre multiple people within a matter of seconds. Perhaps most of us can agree to effectively ban the private ownership of high-capacity magazines used in the firearms of mass shooters,

Should focus on black market gun sales instead.
Yes, we might agree to focusing on black market gun sales as well as enacting a registry of high capacity magazines with a hefty tax imposed on their owners effectively banning any private ownership of firearms with a load capacity exceeding six rounds of ammo,

So if I'm a criminal about to kill people am I going to stop and decide that I can't use a lot of bullets because high capacity mags are illegal? You know what happened when they banned them before in one state? Nothing. The people who had them just hid them.

Really? Despite a firearm loaded with six rounds of ammo sufficing enough fire power for self-defense or hunting food in contrast to a firearm loaded with 30 rounds intent to perpetrate a shooting massacre?
Or to stop a shooter, or several...

A link is always a good idea for this sort of thread:

10 dead, 13 shot in Buffalo supermarket mass shooting | RochesterFirst

"Ten people were killed and three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals after a mass shooting at a supermarket on Buffalo’s East Side Saturday afternoon.

When the shooter exited his vehicle, he shot four people in the parking lot, BPD Commissioner Joesph Gramaglia said during a press conference. Three of them died and one is in the hospital. The shooter entered the store and opened fire on customers.

A retired Buffalo Police officer, who was working as a security guard, shot the gunman, but the 18-year-old was unharmed because he was wearing armor, Gramaglia said. The gunman shot a killed the retired officer.

A law enforcement source told CBS News that the gunman had a racial slur written on his weapon. "

It does not look as if this gear was acquired from the black market.

Yes, I meant closing loopholes on things like gun trade, transfers, the sorts of ways these guns sometimes get sent around.
This does not look like a case of black market material. Not only did he have a weapon but "tactical gear" too, I assume that it means some sort of bullet resistant vest.

Where would you get your high capacity magazine from? And no one is talking about banning them from just one state.

New York already has a high capacity ban statewide. Your late to the party.

Like I said ad nauseum, that criminals don't care about laws. They don't matter if they are there or not.

Laws are just a feel good way to gleefully
take and eliminate 2nd amendment rights out of the picture under the guise of personal safety.

I wouldn't. The black market is the black market. Mexico is an open border. If an evil person wants to get a hold of something, he will find a way.

I don't think it would be fair to penalize law abiding super-majority for the sake of those who are evil.

A car racing into a parade of people would kill just as many... don't suggest we not sell cars either.

Right.

And my point was that the most effective way of getting, say, large capacity magazines out of the black market - or at least make them so expensive that they're out of reach for most criminals - is to make their sale or possession illegal.

Is there a nationwide ban? There was one for a while. It is hard to say whether it had much of an effect. The killings did not drop after the ban was enacted. But they did rise substantially after the ban ended:

PolitiFact - Did mass shooting deaths fall under the 1994 assault weapon ban? Checking Bill Clinton's claim

Why did mass shooting deaths rise so sharply after the ban ended? Was it the lack of the ban or something else?

You appear to be assuming that they are "evil" in a mythical demonic sort of way. Many people are evil in an "I want to kill a bunch of people without working too hard" way. This shooter did not appear to have to do anything to spectacular to get his gear. Why make it easy for such people?
