Cryptids, ghost stories, urban legends... oh my!

Sgt. Pepper

All you need is love.
Greetings and salutations to everyone who reads this post.

The purpose of this OP is to tell you, the reader, that I'm interested in hearing about anything paranormal that you're aware of where you live, or in a surrounding area of where you live. It could be a local urban legend, a local ghost story, or a story of a suspected haunted house or building. It could also be a local story of a strange encounter with a cryptid or a local story of a UFO sighting. I'm even interested in hearing some other eerie story that you might have heard elsewhere, and you'd like to share it.

Well, I'm listening, and I won't judge you.

For the paranormal enthusiasts, who also believe in the paranormal...

I'm a firm believer in the paranormal, first as a Sensitive, second as a paranormal investigator, and third as a firsthand eyewitness to poltergeist activity, and other paranormal phenomena. As a Sensitive, I've been able to feel the presence of spirits, see spirits, and hear disembodied voices of spirits since I was a small child. I've also spent a lot of time personally investigating the paranormal myself. So, I want you to know first and foremost that I will not judge you and ridicule you for sharing your stories with me.

For the skeptics, who don't believe in the paranormal, and feel it's their life's mission to debunk anything paranormal...

My thread IS NOT a debate thread or a soapbox for the skeptic to come in here determined to prove that the paranormal is not real, or fervently insist that it's wrong to believe in the paranormal because it's demonic and against Judeo-Christian beliefs. The purpose of my thread is for other paranormal enthusiasts to share some paranormal stories with me. The atmosphere of this thread is meant to be welcoming and lighthearted. For the record, debate and mocking members is not allowed in this forum.

And now with all of that said and done... LET THE STORYTELLING BEGIN...

Here's a family ghost story, told to me by my mom. It occurred in the her rural NC home when she was a child in the late 1940s/early 1950s.

Her father's brother, Uncle X, had led a dissolute life as an alcoholic. When he was older, he came to live with them and reformed himself, becoming very religious. There was a Dutch door separating the kitchen from the dining room. Late at night, Uncle X could be seen with the lower half of the door open, with a Bible on his lap, reading every night. After he died, she said you could still see him at night with the Bible in his lap, through the lower Dutch door.

A separate story she told me involved her seeing the Mako Light near Bolton, NC. The backstory/legend was that a railroad engineer was decapitated in an accident and his head flew off into the adjoining swamp and was never found. At night a ghostly light was seen by locals (and my mom) traveling from a distance down the track, disappearing as it neared the observer. It is said that was the railroad engineer looking for his head.

A paranormal experience she related to me from the 1950s in Rocky Point, NC was she was walking down Highway 210 when she stepped into cold air, looked up, and saw a street scene from the 1800s. When she took another step, it was gone.

I grew up right down the road from where this happened: Androscoggin Creature - Wikipedia

There was a Monsterquest episode about it, but it was really just a coydog.

There are all sorts of stories of the Loup Garou (werewolf) that would follow you home if you saw its red glowing eyes. I spent many summers camping in the woods in various places in the area and aside from a lot of coyotes, never had any problems with werewolves! My brother claims he saw a giant creature that he thought was a moose in the woods out back of my house one Thanksgiving. When we went to look, we didn't see moose tracks, but did see giant human-like footprints in the snow. He claims it was the Loup Garou to this day, though I think it was most like deer or moose prints that had melted and took the shape of human prints (they really look like human prints when they do that).

There's a lot of ghost lore around the first school in Turner: institute

It's now a library and museum. I ghostwrote (ha!) a book for a local janitor who did night shifts there, and he had lots of stories of hearing children afterhours, people having full conversations, and windows opening and lights turning on and off. It's right next to the elementary school, and teachers heading to work early still say they hear children in the building well before it is open.

Hello......
I have three stories to tell you, two are about orbs (or items) that were found hanging around much loved people and pets after owners and relative's deaths. The other is about two healings that I have witnessed during my lifetime.

Let's do the orbs (unexplained items). I took the photos. I am not a paranormal follower.
I can offer evidence with my pictures to show that they have not been photo-shopped, not even by a single pixel.

My Grandmother died in 2004. She was massively fond of her great grandson and a cat. In 2005 I happened to take photos of this cat and every one had strange intangible translucent circular shapes hanging around it. After discovering the first on my camera's screen I later took several others and I offer two for your scrutiny. I also have photographed one of their thumb nails with a cursor placed over it to highlight the details of the photograph and because this shows the camera which was used and other details this shows that the picture has not been manipulated in any way.

My wife's Grandfather (or Grandmother, can't remember just now) died in 2007. During a visit to her parents home I took several pictures of a much loved dog. I offer a photo of the picture's thimbnail to show that it has not been manipulated in any way.

I have photos of My Grandmother's much loved great grandson and in these the orbs (items) are dashing around so fast that they have left tails across the screen. I don't want to shows those pics but I do have a pic of that cat that was so close to the child that one of those trails can be seen. I may need two posts to put up all of this.

So far a very educated skeptic has suggested that the orbs are dust on camera screen, spots of light directed on to surfaces and the moving orbs produced by flicking string in front of the camera. Of course I know that these claims are bunkum because I was there, took these photos, my cameras...... the lady in the photo is my wife (2007).

Here we go:

Next....... a healing report.

In 1972-3 my late wife was suffering from massive grand-mal clonic-tonic seizures. I took her to meet with a respected healer called Harry Edwards of Leatherhead, Surrey, England. My wife told him that she didn't believe in any of it, had only come to please/humour me (I was desperate). Harry told her that he didn't mind about that and told us to go home. That was that! The seizures ended. They ended. In 1976/7 (can't remember now) my wife's seizures suddenly started up again, so I went back to see Harry Edwards. He had just died.

In September 2017 my lungs were filling with fluids. My doctor put me in for emergency lung cancer investigation tests, about 8/9 different visits to hospital. Things looked pretty bad for me. On Monday October 16th 2017 I went to a Spiritualist chapel for healing. At 13.30hrs a young lady, Julie, dressed all in black leather with high boots and very heavy Goth makeup arrived....she was telling her friends that she'd been out clubbing the Sunday night before, a most unlikely healer, I thought. She worked at the Wedding shop not far away.......She was the healer! She gave me healing.

On Wednesday 18th October at 1100hrs my wife and I attended K&C Hospital to hear the test and biopsy results on my lung cancer investigation. The specialist looked odd as he spread his hands and told us that there was nothing.......nil.....all negative. He checked to see if the results really were mine. He sent me down for a further X-ray and when we got back he had the picture up on his screen. nothing...clear.... We went home and sat quietly together for the rest of the day.

@oldbadger, thank you for sharing your stories with me. I appreciate it. And I have to tell you that I think your pictures are extraordinary. If it were me, then I would investigate the home further and I'd try to communicate with the spirits there.

I live in West Virginia, so there are a lot of local appalachian stories. One is from Point Plesant; the story of the Mothman.

Mothman was said to be the reason for the Silver Bridge collapse. He was a humanoid with the head and wings of a moth and the body of a human. He had red eyes and his body was fuzzy. Sightings of him were all over, and all described similar things about his appearance. After the Silver Bridge collapse, the sightings stopped (there are still people who claim to see him today, but mostly the sightings stopped after the collapse). Some say he was an omen for disaster, sent to warn people about the bridge collapse. Some say he caused it. Others say it was just a big bird. Who knows? It's an interesting tale. You can still take pictures at his statue. People leave pepperoni rolls as an offering to him.

Thank you for sharing the story of the Mothman, Ashoka. I appreciate it. I've read stories about the Mothman, and he is definitely a legendary cryptid creature. The Appalachian Mountains in West Virginia does have its fair share of strange and frightening cryptids, like the Sheepsquatch, the Braxton County Monster, and the Grafton monster. It also has the extraordinary tale of the Bell Witch.

Thank you for the stories thus far. I truly appreciate it. Would anyone else like to share a story or two?

I was hoping for more spooky stories to read in my thread. Sigh. I haven't felt like going out and investigating a suspected haunted location because I've been sick for more than a week with Omicron. I need some more spooky stories or urban legends to research.

No, you're not too late. You can either share your story here in my thread or you can send me a private message.

I'll share it here. :=)

In my last house, I've seen and heard many weird things. Today's story is about orbs. They were seen by me, not once, but three times, that too with my naked eyes and NOT with a camera.

I'm not the kinda person who's sees and hears otherwordly things. It was only in that house i had my first paranormal experience.

Anyway, one day i was lying on my bed (facing the ceiling). It was a bright morning, probably around 8AM. The whole room was lit with bright sunlight peircing through the windows. My eyes were closed, but i wasn't asleep.
When i slowly opened my eyes (while still lying on my bed), i noticed a small bright orangish thing just above my belly, rising upwards slowly, leaving a comet like trail behind.

While watching this thing, i wasn't scared or anything because i had no idea what this thing was.

It remained in my view for a few seconds.

Just to make sure i wasn't seeing things, i closed my eyes and opened them again but by then it was gone.

After this experience i wasn't sure whether it was real or just a dream. Maybe i had just fallen asleep and dreamt it all up. That was my initial thought.
Then i looked it up on the internet (giving the descriptions in the google search bar of a luminous comet like thing, that i had just seen in my bedroom) and found a bunch of search results.

These google links led me to both images taken by people with their cameras and also to web articles/books written by paranormal experts.
I stumbled upon one of the books where the author included a picture of an orb with a comet like trail behind. According to her, when these things are stationary or floating very slowly they appear round but when they move at a slightly moderate speed they leave a comet like trail behind.

So i guess i wasn't dreaming after all.

The book is still in my amazon wishlist. Will buy it someday. :)

Thank you for sharing your story, Greg. It's very interesting, and it sounds like you handled the situation well.

Out of curiosity, do you know the history of your last house and the land that it's built on?

Out of curiosity, do you know the history of your last house and the land that it's built on?

Well, i moved in there as a tenant in early 2011. It was a brand new apartment (recently constructed). No one lived before me, in the room in which i moved in. Didn't enquire much about the land either. There were a couple more families living in that apartment below me and i didn't hear anything strange or unusual from them.

From the very first year, i heard voices. But shrugged it off thinking maybe its my mind making all that up due to stress. A few years went by. One day i was chatting with my maid in the kitchen about day to day stuff.
Then she changed the conversation and asked me "Do you know about the accident that took place near this apartment?"

And i was like "what accident"?

She said, a few years ago there was a family who lived in a small hut like house on the opposite side of your apartment (they were mostly poor people). One night there was a heavy storm and a big tree near their hut was uprooted and it fell on them. They all died. That's what my maid told me.

When i asked her about the exact location of the accident, she pointed it out from my bedroom window. It was right infront of me, just a few feet away from my apartment. There lies a small hut like house in very bad condition with broken walls and no roof. Big bushes encircled the area.

It was not something i was seeing for the first time. I mean i always used to sit near my window during the evening just to get a feel of the cool evening breeze and looked in that direction many times but never really thought that people actually died there.

I lived in that apartment for 6 years and had many more strange experiences while i was there.
