Never Agree To Be Searched Without A Warrant

Cops searching your, your car, or your home will never help you.
The purpose of searches is to find something...never to exculpate you.

Think you have nothing to hide?
You might have something they could trump up.
Or lacking that, they might plant something to find.

Art 14 Italian Constutution
Inspections, searches and seizures are not admissible except in the cases described explicitly by the law.
And with the proper guarantees suitable to safeguard personal liberty.

Meaning: since the law says no police officer can search me unless they have a warrant issued by the judicial authority, I need to read the warrant first before being searched.

Can't they use your refusal as a reason to search you?
Not refusal directly, but they can prod and find an excuse to search. The best thing to do is keep quiet. There is a law that cops can't detain you longer than to issue a ticket for the reason you were pulled over. With body cameras cops are being caught violating this. Some are getting fired and the citizens suing for damages.

It's called reasonable suspicion. It's a failsafe for warrantless search.
But there are guidelines to WHAT is reasonable. There are videos of cops saying they smell pot, when there is no actual pot being smelled. They can insist in court that they truly believed they smelled pot and this was the basis for a reasonable search. The best thing is to keep your mouth shut except answer questions related to the stop.

I recall one case where a cop driving in a car claimed
he could smell pot in a closed container in another
car driving down the same road.
The judge didn't believe him.

Cops will try any excuse. They even signal K9 dogs
to alert to illegal substances. Then they search.
(K9s are about as accurate as a coin flip in the complex
environment of a roadside search & handlers who are
poorly trained. There's the Clever Hans effect too.)
But this is becoming a problem when pressing charges.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

It's why I find body cams so useful, and support them as protection for both the cops and the perps.

And be cautious about answering any questions.
Anything you say can be used against you....& what you
say might not be what they claim you say. If you speak,
use a dash cam or phone to record it. This is legal.

Not to just be tiresome, but sexist
comments are tiresome.
I don't think it's sexist.
But the joke (I hope it's a joke) is about the possibility
that a cop who wants to do a search (legal or not) has
romance on his/her mind. Many cops have fondled or
raped people on the job. It never sounds even remotely
pleasurable.

A male cop sexually assaulted the son of a lawyer I
knew. Only the cop enjoyed it.

Some real research for any who care about reality Efficacy of drug detection by fully-trained police dogs varies by breed, training level, type of drug and search environment - PubMed
For those who are averse to clicking and reading, it depends on the drug, the breed and the situation. The ranking of drugs from the easiest to the most difficult to detect was: marijuana, hashish, amphetamine, cocaine, heroin. German shepherds were superior to other breeds in giving correct indications while Terriers showed relatively poor detection performance.
