Seems that the FBI agent in charge says that the Jewish community was not the target of the suspect.

I mean, if people can claim that a white supremacist shooting up a Christian church with predominantly African American Christians present was not motivated by racism or bigotry, then they can claim that an Al Qaida member taking a synagogue and its Rabbi hostage was not motivated by antisemitism.

The story is in accord with what I heard his motives were. But I have to wonder how many commenting here read that linked story in the OP or read a similar detail-rich story.

And in any event, first reports of horrible stories like this one frequently have errors in them.

Also in that social media based opinion piece....
Critics are slamming the FBI as 'solely focused on destroying the domestic enemies of the Democratic Party'
It still seems a bit early to fully divine the hostage taker's motives.
BTW, I've accused the FBI of corruption in particular areas, eg,
civil forfeiture abuse, but I don't know their reasoning in this case.

I think I understand the FBI's intent but its statement was poorly worded and has been since walked back. The parts about funding etc are completely alien to me and I ignore them.

Consider the venue of her attempted killing.
Who is Aafia Siddiqui, the federal prisoner at the center of the Texas hostage incident?
Perhaps it's because she wasn't on a battlefield.
