How To Sell Books?

We were given a collection of old books awhile back by a friend who had inherited them from another friend. He didn't read, but knew they were valuable, and knew we enjoyed books. He dumped the whole lot here, and we sifted through what we wanted, what we didn't want, and what we thought might be valuable and wouldn't want to put in a 'take a book, leave a book' box.

We finally got around to investigating(a couple years later), and some of these books fetch prices from several hundred to several thousand dollars online. Being as these are books we'd probably never read ourselves and could use the cash, we'd like to sell them. Question is, how does one go about doing this? Half Price Books doesn't give you beans, and I don't really know what the best way to do this is.

Many people like first editions and only look for those. Other than that I cant help. Best of luck.

These things are super old. We found an autographed book from 1890. They're all from that era.

I've never done it. But if they are moderately valuable, I've heard eBay is a decent way/place to sell things.

Good thinking.

One's worth $2,000 online...

I don't know about over the Atlantic but on this side there are some companies that buy used cd/dvd/books. You download their app, scan the items barcode or ISBN number and it gives a price there and them.

That's perhaps for common, low value items, for higher value books i suggest contacting a specialist book dealer.

A dealer's a good idea, but I'm not sure at all how to do that, or what I'd search for to find one...

You could take them to an auction house and get them appraised etc. and sell them there.

An auction house! I hadn't even thought about that... we do have one not far off.

Thanks for the help, everyone! Hopefully we can get these into the hands of someone who will enjoy them.

I've had good luck on Amazon for non-antiquarian books.

First way is opne online shop. Next create app for mobile phone. But you need to use different types of additonal services like cloud managed services which give you some points. By outsourcing your cloud managed services , you control and reduce costly network maintenance costs. Staffing a full-time IT department is expensive and often unnecessary for small to medium-sized businesses with simple networks.

Use google maps, and look for antiquarian bookshops. You could do all this with a few letters. First make a list of your books, and than just send it out. But as with coin shops, they will take a huge portion. Have you considered ebay, etsy, even kijiji? There are a lot of sites like that.

How is the book disposition going? I hadn't seen this thread. What sort of books do you have? Or have you found homes for them by now?

Here's what my AI assistant said:

"Hello! As an AI language model, I do not know your geographical location but I can provide some general advice.

The best place to sell old and rare books varies depending on the location and type of books you have. However, there are a few widely known options:

1. Online Marketplaces: You could use online marketplaces like eBay, Amazon, or AbeBooks to sell your books. They have a large audience, and you can sell your books to a global market.

2. Auction Houses: If you have rare or collectible books, you can consider selling them at auction houses like Christie's or Sotheby's. These auction houses specialize in high-end collectibles and have a global reach.

3. Local Bookstores: You can try selling your books to local bookstores that specialize in rare books. Some independent bookstores may buy old and rare books depending on their inventory needs.

4. Online Marketplaces for Rare Books: Websites like Biblio and Alibris specialize in rare and antiquarian books and may be a good place to find buyers for your collection.

Before selling your old and rare books, it is recommended to do some research to get an idea of their worth and condition. This will help you get the best price for your books.

The books got buried in other hoardy type stuff, and it took me months to deal with that... that room is usable again, but in the meantime, I forgot about the books...

*sigh*

There is too much **** in this house.
