WTF?

CIA Files Say Staff Committed Sex Crimes Involving Children. They Weren’t Prosecuted.
Excerpted...
Over the past 14 years, the Central Intelligence Agency has secretly amassed credible evidence that at least 10 of its employees and contractors committed sexual crimes involving children.

Though most of these cases were referred to US attorneys for prosecution, only one of the individuals was ever charged with a crime. Prosecutors sent the rest of the cases back to the CIA to handle internally, meaning few faced any consequences beyond the possible loss of their jobs and security clearances. That marks a striking deviation from how sex crimes involving children have been handled at other federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Drug Enforcement Agency. CIA insiders say the agency resists prosecution of its staff for fear the cases will reveal state secrets.

The revelations are contained in hundreds of internal agency reports obtained by BuzzFeed News through Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.

One employee had sexual contact with a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old. He was fired. A second employee purchased three sexually explicit videos of young girls, filmed by their mothers. He resigned. A third employee estimated that he had viewed up to 1,400 sexually abusive images of children while on agency assignments. The records do not say what action, if any, the CIA took against him. A contractor who arranged for sex with an undercover FBI agent posing as a child had his contract revoked.

Only one of the individuals cited in these documents was charged with a crime. In that case, as in the only previously known case of a CIA staffer being charged with child sexual crimes, the employee was also under investigation for mishandling classified material.

I'd like sexually abusive pedophiles to be chemically castrated in order to keep innocent children safe from getting sexually abused by some habitual child rapist.

What makes you like that? Seems rather inhumane to me at a first glance.

It's more humane than what I'd do to someone I caught abusing my kids.

Perhaps if I get married and begin on my project to have 20 kids I'll get the sense, not sure. Maybe it's triggered by generating a person. Still seems rather odd.

Interesting information.

I think sometimes it can become tempting to blame religions, etc, in areas such as child abuse. The ultimate bogeyman here is a lack of transparency and accountability. Granted, there are plenty of religious organisations who were problem-children in this regard (or still are). But the same sort of ire we direct to those organisations, our demands for compensation, and for improved process and oversight should ABSOLUTELY be levelled at other organisations with similar levels of systemic failure.

Chemical castration should be considered as an aid to autonomy for sexually domineering men burdened by their sexual deviance. Chemical castration might very well suppress a child rapist's unacceptable sexuality by providing them with a device for directly removing their problematic desires themselves. Drugs might very well remove (temporarily) one’s whole sexuality, and there could be unpleasant side-effects, but for at least many child rapists, this trade off would still be worthwhile. They would not only be unburdened by their sexuality, they would also be able to redirect their energies towards useful contributions towards society.

I was a school teacher in a prior life, and at some point you feel very protective and responsible for the somewhat fragile little people in your care.
I don't think it's the biological aspects that drives it. At least, not in all cases.

A different way to think about it...if a truck was careening towards one of my kids, and I needed to jump in front of it to save them, it wouldn't even be a thought. I'd just do it. Easy to say, I know.

I've never really investigated, but I thought there were some issues with that 'solution' quite apart from the potential overstepping in terms of allowable punishment (which is an obvious point of debate).

I would think there is missing some information or maybe its just like that in the US? But I have a difficult time believing, that if one of these children made an official case against one in the CIA, that a judge could simply send the case back to the CIA. Wouldn't that violate all sorts of civic rights? And I would also assume that the parents or whoever figured out that these things took place and raised the case in the first place, wouldn't simply agree to that.

So I feel like some part of the story might be missing, as it sort of makes it sound like the CIA can just do whatever they want or get judges to do their bidding and no one can touch them etc.

Clearly, there's much more to this story.
Did government threaten victims &/or families?
Civil rights can be easily sacrificed in the name
of "security" & "safety".

I don't know, maybe the victims never raised an official case, so the CIA might have done it themselves given that the judge send the cases back to them, as one would assume that if it was an official lawsuit, that this wouldn't be possible.

They are a danger to others acting on such impulses in such ways. Their sex did cause harm, and chemical castration lets them keep their testicles while suppressing their testosterone/sex drive. It's not perfect, but countries that practice combing this with cognitive behavioral therapy show a lower repeat offense rate.
But, of course female offenders are a different issue. And there probably isn't much research into given the overwhelmingly sexual offenders are men.

@Lain Do you think child abuse is humane?

I would have them castrated at the neck.
