I'm surprise not even a back bencher of the Conservative Party dared to go on record against such a ban. Cuddos to that decision.

I get the impression that the Conservatives knew for sure they would lose, as the Bloc and NDP both supported it, so rather than sound like some of them still held archaic beliefs, they figured the only way to earn any political points at all was to just get it over with, following O'toole's lead.
