Yep, that's what 2020 showed the GOP.....even when their base turns out in very high numbers, we're now to the point where that's not enough for them to win nationally. Trump got a record number of votes and still lost, which sent a chill through the party.

In response, rather than adjust their platforms and talking points to appeal to more people, they're rejecting democracy itself. It'll be quite interesting to see how this goes.

How the GOP minority will maintain power:

1. Erode confidence in a secure election process
2. Gerrymander
3. Voter suppression (voter roll purges/removing polling places in high Dem/minority areas/making it more difficult to vote by mail/limiting early voting/reducing poll hours/criminalizing giving water or food to voters standing in line)

Two GOP officials have urged Republicans in some cases to vote Democratic in the 2022 midterm elections as one of several ways to bolster the party from candidates they described as "pro-Trump extremists."

Miles Taylor, a Trump-era Department of Homeland Security chief of staff, and Christine Todd Whitman, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, wrote a New York Times op-ed article that ran Monday...

...Together, Taylor and Whitman asked that the GOP's base consider supporting Democrats so "conservative pragmatists" could retake control of the party.

"Rational Republicans are losing the party civil war," they wrote. "And the only near-term way to battle pro-Trump extremists is for all of us to team up on key races and overarching political goals with our longtime political opponents: the Democrats."

They added: "It's a strategy that has worked. Mr. Trump lost re-election in large part because Republicans nationwide defected, with seven percent who voted for him in 2016 flipping to support Joe Biden, a margin big enough to have made some difference in key swing states."

The two argued that this move was necessary because the Republican leadership had "turned belief in conspiracy theories and lies about stolen elections into a litmus test for membership and running for office.​

Perhaps the Republican Party should be rechristened as the Trump Party, because that's what it is now. It's been taken over by a lowly snake in the grass, named Donald Trump, who slithered his way into it and gradually began to subvert it from the inside out. He morphed (distorted) the Republican Party into his own image, and now he controls it. Unfortunately, a majority of conservatives were hoodwinked by this lying, cheating charlatan, and the Republican Party was ultimately sacrificed on the altar of Trumpism.

I was a registered Republican for 26 years (1992-2018), but I decided to break with the Republican Party after living through three wretched years of Trumpism. I registered as a Democrat in 2018, and I've been voting Democratic ever since. In fact, Joe Biden is the first Democratic presidential candidate that I've ever voted for. I voted third party in 2016 because I couldn't bear the thought of voting for Donald Trump, and I wasn't willing at that time to vote Democratic, either. FWIW, I'll continue to back the Democrats and vote Democratic, as long as Trump, and his loyal lackeys, have control of the Republican Party. I detest Trumpism, to be honest.
