Do Cats Know They’re Cats?

Heyo

Veteran Member
Do cats know they are cats? Do you ever tell cats “ you’re a cat”? Sometimes I tell my cats they are cats.
I tell a cat who is overly angsty "you're a *****".

Edit: Damn it swear word filter!
That's a perfectly valid name for a cat. [And a synonym for a coward, which makes the pun work and you censor me just because some use it as a synonym for the female anatomy. Learn some context!]

I'm sure they know that other cats are of the same tribe as they are, i.e. not foxes or birds or dogs.

But I doubt that they have an actual thought symbol to articulate the idea to themselves that cathood is the thing that unites them and that they themselves are cats.

They can condisend to pick up a few human words, 'food' and 'treats' sees them running from all directions. And we have 3 that can definitely say what sounds like 'out' if they want a door opening for them.
