Another flash mob of thieves

I wouldn't either. I don't know the minimum number needed to achieve a mob. What about a horde? How many is that?

It seems just as hard to determine a horde or so I have heard.

I reckon at least 8 to 10 for a mob and over 1,000 for a horde.

A mob is a large number of disorderly people. a handful of so is hardly a mob.
In the UK it takes 12 or more to make a riot. When the riot act can be read out.

I would add that I think a group is 3-7 usually. So it is:

Individual, duo, group, mob...horde...?

Probably should include trio and quartet in there somewhere.

In the end, I suppose it does not matter how many are doing the looting, just that is a problem that needs to be curtailed. I think that adding epithets like mob serve only those that seek to sensationalize it for their own ends.

When I read the headline my brain was thinking dozens of people rampaging through a shopping centre.

Just one more headline I've been sucked into. It worked, I clicked, even disabled the ad blocker to read it.
I get sucked in all the time. I try to find the pertinent information at least and not just jump on the sensation. Unfortunately, sometimes that is all there really is. Lots of icing and no cake.

Apparently some are more concerned with hairsplitting the definition of the word mob than that brazen acts of violence are happening.

Brazen acts of violence have always been happening. We just have more people reporting it and putting their spin on it than we did in the past.

There is nothing wrong with trying to better understand reading material.

As in the right wing which is using the word "mob" to turn criminal behavior into a political attack. Jan 6th was mob action. A criminal gang is not a "large and disorderly crowd"
