1.7 million migrant border crossing set record FY2021, and this is just the ones that were apphrened by CBP or turned themselves in. There is an article in the Washington Post (pay wall) that says 1000 illegal cross a day and are not apprehended. Reports say that there are more than 2,000 migrants in the caravan, setting off from Tapachula, Mexico –

Organized migrant caravan moves toward US, surging past Mexican forces

Guess you Democrats have to get votes somewhere.:p

Oh no. Not a bunch of people who are eagerly hoping to work productively in my country and make a better life for themselves, and who will pay income taxes but receive almost no government support. Whatever will we do with more laborers, more innovators, more business owners, and more neighbors looking to build up their community and live their lives?

Oh wait, I'm scared of everyone who doesn't look, think, act, and believe like me. People different from me are weird and icky, and I'm uncomfortable and scared. But wait! I'm super manly so I can't be scared, so instead I will say I'm angry! Yeah, that's better. And then I'll stereotype an entire category of diverse people, because I don't actually know any of them as individuals, which would let me understand that they're just people like anyone else. No no, getting to know them would take work, and empathy, and open-mindedness.

Easier to sit in my home, frightened and unwilling to learn, grow, or embrace inevitable change, because as long as I'm angry and revile an ethnic caricature, then I get to feel like I'm still special. And it's so much easier to feel strong by punching down at other people than by using my strength to lift everyone up around me. But I'm lazy. I mean, I'm really strong. Look how I voted to take away food stamps again from some poor people. Yeah, whew, I really feel strong and special compared to them. I bet people will finally like me now. Maybe I'll even like myself...

Republicans are just as much to blame, if not more so.

Here is an easy question. Why do illegal immigrants come here?

So you don’t believe that countries should have borders?

Huh? Of course I think countries should have borders. Let me guess why you're trying to strawman me with a total non sequitur:

Do you think that when the dominant political group in a country sees people who don't share their ethnic appearance cross their country's border, then the country should attack them with whips, lock them up and force them to drink water out of toilet bowls and sexually abuse them, and take away their children without keeping records and put those children in cages? All as a pragmatic deterrent?

Because that's where I bet we actually disagree.

We've had Mexico on our southern border for a long time. It was only recently, when Republicans realized they could cash in on conservative xenophobia and replacement panic by portraying immigrants as a threat, that this became a major political issue.

Of course not. I wouldn’t make assumptions if I were. You might look foolish.

That’s not an answer to my question.

Ok. So everyone here is brainwashed by their media of choice rather than thinking for themselves. I guess I was naive to think we could have a real discussion.

If only they'd built a decent wall as promised.
