if consciousness is based on electrical impulses, then how does the body create electricity, or electromagnetic radiation, waves; which is an energy that supposedly can't be created/destroyed? basically electromagnetic.
Consciousness as a Physical Process Caused by the Organization of Energy in the Brain
Well, energy can be *transformed* from one type to another. So, potential energy can be converted into kinetic energy, which can be converted into heat, which can be converted into electrical energy, etc.
In the body, the foods we eat provide chemical energy. That chemical energy is released in a variety of chemical reactions that do everything from break down food, to build up tissues, to separate charges (ions) across cell membranes.
In particular, in neurons, sodium and potassium ions are often separated across the membrane of the neuron. When a nerve impulse starts, a chemical signal opens up ion channels that allow the ions to move across the membrane. This is a current (a motion of charges). This current produces a magnetic field which then interacts with the separated charges down the line, propagating the signal.
The 'electricity' in the body functions quite differently than the electricity in copper wires. In wires, the electrons move along the wires while in the neurons, the electrons actually move across the membrane, not in the direction of the nerve.
When a nerve signal gets to the end of the neuron, that electrical signal is again transformed into a chemical signal (when neurotransmitters are released). When that chemical signal gets to the next neuron, it opens the ion channels there and gets the signal going again.
So the actual signal in the brain is a mix of electrical, magnetic, and chemical. In that way it is quite different than the electrical systems in our houses. Among other things, it propagates a LOT slower (because of the chemical aspects).
