Blaming money is easier than blaming voters who show
in the primaries & elections that they've little interest in
ending wars & protecting the environment. They reject
the "fringe" candidates with values they claim to support,
& instead go with the status quo.
We agree that the US citizens are among the most gullible, most hawkish, most greedy, least environmental conscious, least social, least informed, stupidest in the world. But 1. at least in part that can be mitigated by information and 2. when people constantly seem to vote against their self interest, maybe there is some other force present besides stupidity.

Must be a thing. The UK working class constantly vote for a party that actively works against their interests. And, weirdly, in plain view.

I wonder if this could be related to the fact that the entire media ecosystem is owned by billionaires or controlled by their sock puppets...

It's easy to blame the voters but when every source of trusted authority is telling whooping big porkies all day every day, for actual years on end, about the bad man who loves the terrorsists and his cultish movement of PC crazed Hitler-Communists a good chunk of people are going to buy it.

You may be on to something! Restricting education is also a factor.

In my view, much of the problem seems to be related to how people view politics in general, along with an unhealthy degree of emotionalism in political rhetoric, which can often be manipulative, overbearing, sanctimonious, and hypocritical.

I honestly don't believe it's a matter of stupidity or ignorance (although there is a good deal of that). It seems more a matter of emotional and psychological fragility which seems to pervade the rhetoric. This seems especially true when it comes to patriotism and militarism (although it can be discerned up and down the spectrum).

Political rhetoric often comes out like some kind of scripted drama with many players all reading from the same page, like some kind of shrill Greek chorus.

I don't think we agreed to that.
There is much competition around the globe from
Germans, Russians, Chinese, etc, etc.

I would prefer that one day billionaires are a thing of the past. No-one should be permitted to exercise so much control with the sheet purchasing power they possess. It can only ever lead to abuse exhortation and manipulation. I would propose income caps and other measures to rid the world of the apex of an inequitable pyramid, but I know the howls of fury and outrage from the bottom tier slaves would be loudest of all. Humans are complicated. Easily led too unfortunately.
