Lean not unto thine own understanding

idea

Question Everything
Lean not unto thine own understanding, lean only on the understanding of others.

Lean only unto thine own understanding when deciding what other arms of flesh to lean upon.

So - whose arms of flesh does everyone here lean on, and why? or is anyone prideful enough, or honest enough to admit leaning unto their own understanding?

Any leaders seeking followers out there?

I don't know about others but in a general sense US has a panentheistic mindset where we believe in ourselves "and" the good of the whole. The good of the whole is maintained by individual contribution. You see this in military, sports teams, even orchestras where each individual section makes up one melody.

When there's a break in melody it severs the whole group.

This is highly generalizing US culture but I don't see thinking of oneself as prideful unless it harms oneself or others. We all have our own morals so it's just which band we want to play in or be a beautiful talented soloist.

Love others as you also love yourself, I love it. But who conducts the orchestra?

Maybe. I'd like to share my experiences, perhaps write.
That is a difficult question. I am an escape artist. I can preach freedom. I have become good at escaping, but sometimes escaping is like leaving the planet. What is the point in leading other people out into airless space? There has to be somewhere for them to go to.

I absolutely am prideful enough and have done it, but I couldn't have done it without help.

I see the need but am too small for the task. I once thought I could turn my canoe with an oar, but then I found it was not a canoe but a tanker. My oar couldn't even reach the water. I would lead and would drag this tanker covered with people, but it would drag me instead. I have the belief that I have the right way, but I don't believe I have the strength.

Too scary. People expect you behave in a pattern that suits them. If you are the slightest bit misaligned they will peck you to death. They do it instinctively out of self preservation. Some can't even function outside of a pack, but in a pack they can think. Its like their soul cannot be on its own. Leaning on others is Ok when you can align, but when can't align it is unsafe.

If I don't see leaders flaws they're not my leader.

I love that - very few leaders admit their own faults. Admitting our own faults is an invitation for others to think and act for themselves, an invitation to others to feel genuinely needed.

The one who used to be part of the band himself.

Good point

All old people have once been part of the band, everyone does not become a leader, and sometimes old cultures and traditions do need to die.

In an ideal world it would be the one who is kindest, listens, and the one who works the hardest, is the most talented I think.

An escape artist - love it, I have escaped a few things too... I think the ultimate escape for anyone is becoming self-reliant - emotionally, spiritually, physically, economically self-reliant. Leading yourself and having genuine full confidence I think happens when you are left on your own. When there is no one there to support and protect, that is where you learn you do not need anyone else. You cannot lead anyone to this state of being - they have to become their own leader.

Good to hear you had support through your escape. I had no support - not only no support, but I was the support for my children. I left the pack when someone in the pack abused my kids, and then the pack protected this abuser because they felt they were "called by God".

Yes, people believe what serves themselves - me too, I put the needs of my children and myself first.

Good going! When your kids are in trouble its just what you do. :clapping:

My dad quit the Navy for me when I was a child, risked his career. He started over, found other work. He was already an officer and could have pursued a long career, but I was struggling. He made a leap to save his child.
