I believe God created the earth. I don’t believe it was formed over billions of years despite the evidence. I’ve always thought most believers rejected the theory of evolution but I’ve come to learn many accept it. If you fall into this group feel free to share how you got there. Personally I didn’t really give the TOE much thought growing up and only rejected it outright about 13 years ago when I had a spiritual awakening.

YEC and evolution denialism is a very recent trend. And not very Biblical afaik.

Count me among those. The reason is because the science is sound. The only reason to not accept it, is because of being married to a particularly questionable interpretation of the Genesis story. I do not read Genesis as a scientific account. It is symbolic and its intent is timeless truths about our human nature, not a teaching to compete with modern scientific and historical information.

I find denying evidence to be a serious hindrance to a mature faith. A faith that cannot adapt how we believe about God, is a faith that needs to be seriously questioned as to it value.

For me denying evidence is essential for well being. I reject the 7 day proposal in the Bible but rather embrace what I like to call the blink of an eye scenario regarding creation. I think it’s self explanatory.

You'll find that "believers" come in many shapes and sizes. Many accept that evolution happened because that's what the evidence shows, and nothing in their faith informs them they should think otherwise.

I don’t think it’s intent is to teach timeless truths about our nature I think it’s more about introducing people to a more spiritual way of understanding creation which is a rather unparalleled idea and unmatched in its scope and fruition in my opinion.

Ignorance is bliss?

I don't find ignoring evidence to be good for anyone's growth, especially not within their faith. Which can and should mature as one does.

What exactly would accepting evidence mean for you?
Ignorance is bliss has nothing to do with it. Accepting evidence for me is just that. Recognizing some evidences as false is just that as well. We are different is all.

You specifically stated "denying evidence is beneficial to me".

Evidence is not false. But nice try.

Care to explain where the TOE is wrong?

Other than it doesn't conform to your preconceived worldview.

If I made such a bold statement as "[the Genesis "story"] is symbolic", as though I am stating a fact, I would expect people would want me to back up or support my statement with some solid evidence.
How do you know the Genesis account is symbol?

Yeah I wasn’t being sarcastic. Have more faith in you fellow RFer. Lol

I believe in things for which there is evidence. ;)

So does that mean you don't believe in evolution despite the fact that you understand that the evidence shows it is real?

That's a rather odd position.

It's right to those who believe and have faith in things they do not see.
Faith in God is based on evidence for things though not seen.
Can you explain the difference between the two - belief in God, and belief in the ToE?
If you can, then we can look at the wrongs.
