I believe that God creates humans for the same way humans create humans. Survival. God wouldn't be God if he didn't have something or someone to consider him God. Humans follow a similar pathway, yet we also find that apart from survival, we enjoy our creations. I find purpose being a father to my kids and I could imagine that purpose is felt in God as well with his creations.

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

God created us to be the Godlike creatures who could rule over the animals in His stead. So I guess we have a created role we are supposed to play, but we bit a certain fruit and things took a tailspin from there.
Why did God create man for this purpose? No clue! Certainly He could have fulfilled this role Himself. Right?
