Journal entry: Work incident

Journal Entry.

I couldn't figure where to put this but wanted to get this off my chest with all this silly COVID vaccine issue talk. (I'm at work and we have a computer... nothing I can do about the situation, so...)

So, I work at a senior and disability independent apartment community. I live here too so I know a good amount of faces just not their names unfortunately. After coming from my mini break, I find a resident holding his chest. He knows me and says that he just received the COVID vaccine and he felt this not in his chest at the desk. He explained the symptoms (heart palpitations-I can't do anything) and asked if he should call 911. (I can't say yes or no but I really wanted to say yes). I let him call his pastor on my phone since he didn't have his phone and his family member's number. He also said that he just wanted to go upstairs to his apartment to lie down. I told him I can call 911 (and would get a chair across the hall for him but I can't force him). So he says he would call 911 himself finally.

He went back to his apartment to lie down. The ambulance came and we rushed up. I had to come back to the office and leave the EMT, but I don't know if he was alright or he told 911 he didn't want to go to the hospital even though he may not have been. Since there are strict rules here I can't really go off work and say "remember..."

But it does unnerve me when he said he got the vaccine today, the same day of this incident. He asked was he supposed to have this reaction, I couldn't say yes/no/I don't know.

"I think I'll be alright, I'll just go home and rest" ... that'll stick in my head for the rest of the night and morning and all day at work tomorrow.

Please don't discredit rare side effects. With all treatments, meds, vaccines, whatever we should ask "whats the worse that can happen?"

I'll try to be sensible about the subject, and say that while I think the nation as a whole would be far worse off had all the people that have taken the vaccine hadn't, I don't really support forcing the vaccine on people either, as I really do feel it's a subject where, honestly, it's a costly, life-changing subject whatever you decide to go with. But I'll probably have to get the vaccine, myself.

Do you have more than one vaccine option?

The important thing is that your resident got medical attention. Have you heard how he is?

Thanks. His wife called an hour later and said he left his phone in her car. I did a "wellness check" to tell him his wife's message. He looked tired but he was able to answer the door and get the message.
