Never seen anything better in that "genre." Superb.

Love it, Nicola Walker in particular was brilliant

So, getting back to my pathetically lame hint ...

In our pre-pandemic lives, my wife and I enjoyed such things as live theater, opera, and ballet. These would sometimes include trips to New York and Stratford, Ontario.

It's can get to be an expensive passion, so we're delighted with Fathom Events, which broadcasts a number of outstanding performances in select theaters throughout the U. S. The one that we saw most recently is National Theatre's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time -- an altogether remarkable play that we first saw in person in New York.

And why bring this up? Because in 2013:

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time dominated the UK's most prestigious theatre awards on Sunday night, equalling the record by picking up seven Oliviers, including best actor for its star, Luke Treadaway. ...

As well as the award for Treadaway, the show was named best new play, while Marianne Elliott won best director and Spooks actor Nicola Walker, who played the teenager's mother in the original production, won best supporting actress. ...

Walker, who said the last prize she won was a swimming badge at school, admitted that the early workshopping of the play had been "absolutely terrifying". She added: "We all felt that we were doing something really important, which sounds like a cliche but is true. It was something we really, really cared about. We were part of a proper company in the old-fashioned sense." [ source ]

It was a great night out at the movies for my wife and I. We'll be watching Unforgotten on PBS tonight and, with a little bit of luck, will enjoy seeing Walker star in Annika in the not too distant future.

Yes. Also New Tricks and Midsomer Murders.

Just two bits of trivia ...

Regarding Midsomer Murders, apparently

In March 2011, the series' producer, Brian True-May, was suspended by All3Media after telling the TV listings magazine Radio Times that the programme did not have any non-white characters because the series was "the last bastion of Englishness and I want to keep it that way". When challenged about the term "Englishness" and whether that would exclude ethnic minorities, True-May responded: "Well, it should do, and maybe I'm not politically correct." He later went on to say that he wanted to make a programme "that appeals to a certain audience, which seems to succeed."

As for Unforgotten:

Sanjeev Bhaskar's more dramatic acting roles include ... a main role as DI Sunny Khan in Unforgotten. Bhaskar is currently the Chancellor of the University of Sussex.

Chancellor? Who would have guessed?

Yes, I'm quoting a 15 month old post,, but I thought that some folks might be interested in the fact that Annika debuts on PBS this Sunday.

We'll probably have to wait until early 2023 for season 3 of Unforgotten (without Nicola Walker).
