Fined for not wearing bikini bottoms

From the Washington Post

A women’s handball team wore shorts instead of skimpy bikini-bottom uniforms. The league fined them over $1,700.

The article notes:

According to the International Handball Federation’s handbook, female athletes must wear bikini bottoms “with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg.” “The side width,” the rules state, “must be of a maximum of 10 [centimeters],” or about 3.9 inches.

The same handbook instructs men handball players must wear longer shorts that are “not too baggy” and “10 [centimeters] above the kneecap.”

Seriously?

They should be fined.
Those shorts are way too tight.

Rather subdued for my taste, but better....

The International Handball Federation know exactly what is doing, sadly much of the appeal of the women's sport is watching the women running around in skimpy clothing or do you think the massive popularity of the game is about how exciting it is, sex, sales! What I think is sad is the pathetic jerks who get off on watching it when they have little interest in the game, get a life!

It's not all men in the....
International Handball Federation - Wikipedia

And before being so quick to blame men, consider this.
In the workplace, I observe that it's primarily women
who influence each other's wardrobe....who's out of
fashion, whose clothes don't fit properly, etc.

-- Notice --
I find the bikini bottom requirement to be ridiculous.
I like the protest move.

-- Post Script --
At least we've advanced to the point that women are in the patriarchy.

Who would have thought that the effects of a pervasively chauvinist society might extend beyond men?

How about this for an idea: let's "be so quick to blame" the Federation and the attitudes that foster these rules.

I believe that this team, if I go by the story alone, has grounds to complain. I think there is an understood contract that the guidelines are meant to insure sufficient covering. Its hard to believe that the federation enforced this with a fine. Rules are supposed to be there to punish problem groups. I hope its not the whole story and that there is a reasonable explanation. Otherwise I hope they are sued into a new hole in the ground.

Of course...men are responsible for what women do (when it's loopy).
The patriarchy is powerful indeed.

I did criticize them.
I even proposed alternative sports garb.

Meanwhile, Fox News -- that oxymoronic media institution that graces us with so much perverted drivel -- has tripped into the fray with a piece titled:

Welcome to their world, a world where the only recognizable options are: girl bikini bottoms versus boy shorts.
Actually, I've previously run across the term, "boyshorts", which
those appear to be. So perhaps Fox News isn't the problem, just
language in general that isn't woke enuf for our age.

It is true that there are boyshorts. What the women are wearing looks like them, although I'm not the fashion expert to say if what they're wearing falls under the term "boyshorts" for sure.

Does the league even bother to explain WHY the guidelines are that way?
