There's a chess variant that uses cards called Onitama. I built a computer program to play it.

Each player gets 2 cards and there's a card in the middle.

The cards tell you how you might move. You make a move with a card and swap cards with the middle. Then the other player takes a turn.

The goal is to capture your opponent's king or get your king in their king's starting position. Also, if you can't move you still have to switch a card.

I got it so you can play human vs human, human vs computer, or computer vs computer. A computer player can have a search depth of 0 to 6.

Sounds interesting, is it available?

It's a copyright game, so I probably should think before I distribute it to everyone.

I told the company I was going to make it twice and they ignored me both times though.

When I played chess, we had fun with variants of pieces. One was a coordinator - two pieces cooperated to take an opponents piece. A "long leaper" was like a super knight. And so forth.
