Iran's hardline presidential frontrunner could take the country back to a dark past, just as Iranians are itching for change

[Ebrahim] 'Raisi has played a decades-long role in a bloody crackdown on Iranian dissidents. The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI) has accused him of crimes against humanity for being part of a four-man "death committee" that oversaw the execution of up to 5,000 political prisoners in 1988.

Raisi has never commented on these allegations, but it's widely believed that he rarely leaves Iran for fear of retribution or international justice over the executions.

More recently, his two years as Iran's chief justice were marked by the intensified repression of dissent and human rights abuses, according to CHRI. Among the many hardline moves of his tenure was the first execution in decades of a man for alcohol consumption.

Late last year, a young wrestler was hanged in what human rights groups have described as a "travesty of justice" suspected to be linked to his participation in 2018 anti-government protests...'

It looks to me like life will be very difficult for most Iranians under such a conservative cleric.

In my opinion.

Sooner or later this kind of authoritarian repression will generate an explosion. It probably will not be soon but I'm convinced the day will come.

It worries me that Iran will become Even worse than before.

For believers, I think we all don't really care what your media has to say, they proven to be deceptive and insincere through and through. However, we care in the sense of how massively you guys are deceived by them, but this is your responsibility, not ours, but we do our best to clarify, at the end, everyone clings to which tree they believed is blessed, the haters of the truly blessed word that is pure and from God will be accounted for their hate, while the believers who hate the haters, will be rewarded for their siding with the truthful.

And please, if you cared about human rights, why does your media and governments support Saudi Arabia, save your crocodile tears for someone else.

You sound like Trump, in a way. Why hate the haters? Doesn't that make you the same as them?

Because of their oppressive ways including what they have done in Yemen. Yemen itself and people's silence, makes me know people are evil and certainly deserve hell and are hypocrites to every matter of justice they speak about.

And to your second question, no, hating Iblis and his forces and party, is out of sight of God and love for God's light and his chosen. Their hate is despite clear proofs of God's chosen.

The Quran put's it this way. Believers follow truth while disbelievers follow falsehood and it's not because there are no clear proofs.

Disbelievers have chosen to oppose despite clear proofs. In this case in Iran, it's obvious, they are afraid of the Shiite Culture and are doing everything to fight it.

It was their choice to follow ignorant leaders and misguiding media over truth that is clear.

And when I say disbelievers, I'm talking about oppressors and those who take their side against believers.

It happens to be, that, people who take side of believers without hate and don't show any hate to truth, they are included in righteous people in paradise and are included among good.

It happens when people disbelieve, they can't stop their opposition to believers and seek to oppress them for their religion. This I witness all the time in real time.

Flowery words of justice and human rights mean nothing when actions are the opposite. Look at Yemen and what is happening there.

Don't tell me green light was not given by US and England to Saudi Arabia to do that. Even if not directly, their watching them and doing nothing to stop Saudi Arabia is tactical approval.

I don't believe in the Shi'ite leaders. They are not representing God. They are doing all they can to wipe out Baha'is, and others they don't consider people of the book. But they can't.

I guess it's a matter of who you trust, and it appears you are trusting blindly.

Ah, a post that claims you clarify but offers no clarification lol

Not allowing Bahais to practice their religion officially is WRONG. I am not going to defend everything they do. This is not why the west put sanctions on Iran however. Human rights is not the reason. If it was the reason, what about Saudi Arabia. They are far worse in regarding to freedom of speech and religion. What about their human right violations?

And do the people of Yemen deserve what they are going through all to stop Shiite influence in the region?

I don't even believe in religious leadership for other then God's chosen representatives. I don't believe in religious clergy or authority of any religion including Islam, except for Prophet and his family (Fatima and twelve successors).

But the power structure and form in Iran is thousands times better then US power structure which give most of their taxes to military and Israel and the country doesn't even have free health care nor free-education.

Is it not a wonder that despite all the sanctions, Iran has free education and their health care is subsidized to the extent it's practically free (just they make you pay a little so you don't abuse it).

This while US with all it's robbing ways, doesn't even provide their own people with health care and free education. Pathetic to even begin to talk about human rights.

All they do is kill people as if they're the world police and everything they do must be accepted.

Iran is hated only because it has taken a stance against the west and their bullying ways and has not accept the state of the world that the west colonized and enforced by gun shot.

Hijaab is not even the issue when Saudi Arabia for the longest period wouldn't even let women drive.

The media as a whole are a diverse lot and we do hear of human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia, and thank you for reminding me to publish an article on human rights in Saudi Arabia.

As for why our governments support Saudi Arabia, I would suggest that is for pragmatic reasons, however our governments do occasionally put pressure on Saudi Arabia to reform, for example the US cut contracts approved under Trump for offensive weapons sales to the Saudis because of their atrocious human rights record.

All that being said saying the Saudis do it too is not much of an excuse for Iran's atrocious human rights record, especially since Iran claims to be the divinely guided morally superior regime.

There have been massive protests in Teheran before COVID hit, and it's unlikely that these angry people can all be disappeared.

A great amount of pressure from the West supported allowing women to drive. You are just ignoring the international support for women's rights activists in Saudi Arabia because it doesn't suit your narrative.

There is no atrocious human rights record. The only thing people got against them is Bahais not practicing religion freely. Well tell me in France, why aren't people going haywire about hijaab being prohibitted.

It is wrong for Iran to not allow Bahais to practice religion. But if Iranian police did half the stuff US police do to their own people, we would not here the end of it.

And it seems If us judiciary put's someone in jail for political crimes or for treason, it's fine. Iran does something similar, and they must be wrong.

Wake up dude.

Also, shouldn't this be in the Middle Eastern politics subforum? This has hardly anything at all to do with religion.

As Daniel the wise Prophet revealed from God, everything in politics is tied to religion. It's a lie and western lie, they don't have any religious motive in all this. It's not Christianity that is the motive, but that's not the real religion of those in power is it now? Everyone knows this who has a wakeful eye.

We don't hear the end of it, what rock have you been under, and why do you only consider the US as the summary of all human rights in the west?

Wake up dude.
Except that its not merely imprisoning them, its *killing* them, and political crimes/treason include things like drinking alcohol or peacefully protesting.

Who really needs to wake up?

Killing of people for drinking alcohol by Iran's spiritual leaders has nothing to do with religion?
