No more crackers and sacramental drink for Biden.

The Holy Church has spokwn! "Hic"

U.S. bishops approve "teaching document" that may rebuke Biden and other Catholic politicians who support abortion rights - CBS News

Renewed call for separation of church and state?

Wonder if church could be charged with interfering with governmental administration ?

Anyways, I'm sure there's an oyster and chowder bar someplace in the meantime.
I have to echo the statement above. The Catholic Church has no business telling anyone about morality. They’ve lost that high ground.
(Not that I think that way about individual Catholics, of course.)

Yay, more Catholic bashing. Insulting Communion itself, as well. RF is so friendly.

The Catholic Church has moral teachings and if you're opposing them publicly, they can withhold Sacraments from you. If you're not Catholic, it doesn't concern you. This has zero to do with any church state thing. Are you joking?

It doesn't concern me? What about the hundreds, if not thousands, of children that were sexually abused? What about the spiritual abuse? The emotional manipulation? The murder of indigenous people, the wiping out of different cultures? It's not my concern?

Please. I am an ex-catholic. I was treated horribly. I was told God hated me for being part of the LGBT community. I was called crazy and mentally ill for questioning the church and its teaching. I was called a ***** and told that I would have been RAPED by the crusaders and during the inquisition.

It absolutely concerns me. They are hypocrites. They take from the poor and glorify poverty and suffering. They take advantage of the innocent. They demonize other faiths and religions and cultures. And it has the audacity to turn its nose to Joe Biden?

I'm a lapsed Catholic and was treated badly at my ex-parish. I hated Catholicism for a long time. I'm sorry that happened to you, but it's not exactly fair to derail this thread with what are off-topic grievances that are all over the place.

And, no - this does not concern non-Catholics. The Church can withhold Sacraments from it's members as it sees fit.

My point at bringing those things up was not to derail, but rather to point out the hypocrisy in the catholic church judging someone and refusing communion to someone, when they have sins of their own.

We all do and we're all hypocrites, so I guess none of us should take any moral stances?

The average person does make mistakes. But they aren't in a position of power like the catholic church is. That''s my point. They create this idea that they are this beacon of good in the world. But the truth is far from that. They act like they have this moral compass. But they have their own issues, like the sex abuse scandal. Why can't the Bishops worry about that? You're right, in the end, they do have their right to refuse sacraments. And they should. Towards abusive priests and bishops.

That is my point. They are directing all of this energy in the wrong direction. They have the ability to do so much good in the world. Instead, they waste their time on things like this.

That depends. Do you prop yourself up as the sole arbiter of morality for the human world, and the most direct communion between man and diety, and the gatekeeper of the highest moral authority in the Universe?

If not, then to make the comparison between inidividual people and the Catholic church is extremely silly.

This is what they're wasting their time on. This.

Not the sex scandal. Not bishops who steal from the church.

Good to know they have their priorities straight. So glad I left.

do not look behind the curtain

nothing to see there

plenty of “other” people to focus your attention on

No doubt times have changed.

At one time, preists were well respected and held in high esteem. Even by non Catholics.

Not anymore. At least on a level from past decades.

teaching document, that’s a laugh

i’m still waiting to be shown where Jesus, speaks out against abortion ?

not just a misunderstood prooftexted verse please, please?

and if you want to use Paul to create your religion from, try this verse dear catholic bishops:

... we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness by which they lie in wait to deceive, but spreading the truth in love, may grow up in all things unto Him who is the head-Christ. (Eph 4:14 & 15)

oh, wait, maybe, perhaps Paul is speaking of such people when he writes “trickery of MEN”

what is Pauls answer?

spread the TRUTH in LOVE

GROW UP in ALL things unto Him who is the head- CHRIST

why is this so hard to understand?

The Catholic Church is a global institution with hundreds of millions of members. They're capable of doing many things at once.

The Catholic Church does huge amounts of good in the world. When you're down and out, churches are one of the few places you can turn to for help.

Equating criticism of the largely corrupt and morally bankrupt institution that is the Catholic Church with bashing Catholicism is an insult both to Catholicism and Catholics who have no issue calling out the Church on its misdeeds.

I disagree with demonizing Catholicism as a religion because of the Church's issues, but I also disagree with any attempt to be apologetic toward the Church under the banner of defending Catholicism despite the Church's extensive history of abusive and criminal practices.

Yeah, because the OP was definitely an example of fair criticism. No one is saying that you can't criticize things. But we're past that and into demonization of the Church as a whole and juvenile insults. The Church includes all baptized members. It's not some secret cabal of men in the bowels of the Vatican.

I'm not very familiar with nuances of Catholic teachings, but decisions like denying someone Communion are often up to higher-ups in the Church, aren't they? The average member doesn't have the authority to determine who gets to attend Communion inside their church.

And I'm only speaking for myself. My posts contain no "juvenile insults" or demonization of the Church as a whole. If you believe otherwise, feel free to point out where I said anything in this thread that qualifies as such.

Very true. Never meet your heroes, I guess?
Or is the lesson that even the Pope has skeletons in the closet?
