Is Trump being realistic here or top of the list of presidents who might be considered more traitors to their country than heroes?

Donald Trump: I trust Vladimir Putin more than US intelligence

Mr Trump still claims Russia did not meddle in the election and said his meeting with Mr Putin was a success for the US. “As President, I had a great and very productive meeting in Helsinki, Finland, with President Putin of Russia,” Mr Trump said. “Despite the belated Fake News portrayal of the meeting, the United States won much, including the respect of President Putin and Russia. Because of the phony Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, made-up and paid for by the Democrats and Crooked Hillary Clinton, the United States was put at a disadvantage — a disadvantage that was nevertheless overcome by me. Good luck to Biden in dealing with President Putin — don’t fall asleep during the meeting, and please give him my warmest regards!”

The respect of Russia or of the rest of the world, you decide as to which counts more:

World approves of US more under Joe Biden than Donald Trump
America’s Image Abroad Rebounds With Transition From Trump to Biden

When it comes to America's image, I've seen opinions run up and down the spectrum. Sometimes it comes down to whoever is President at the time, but very often, it's more of an image encompassing our overall history and America's role in the world (as it has been since WW2).

I don't doubt that our image might have improved somewhat now that Trump is out of office, but that was to be expected anyway.

As for respect from Russia or the rest of the world, I've noticed that opinions vary depending on which country or region of the world we're talking about. The G7 or NATO countries may like us now, but I don't think they speak for the rest of the world either.

How?

By going back to the status quo business as usual?
Well I'm sure most of us would rather not, given that many of us lived through a period where the two sides were threatening to annihilate each other for decades, but I'd rather the love affair was based in truth than in one person's suspect relationship with another, and where they also seemed to dismiss their experts when they weren't apparently towing the line - that they had set.

I think its largely due to the fact Putin is both a strong leader and has charisma.

Godwin's law invocation - "strong" and "charisma" have nothing absolutely nothing to do with honesty, wisdom or any other virtue. Evil dictators like Putin are apparently strong and have charisma.

Trump wants to be like them - he probably watched Star Wars and identified with the Emperor.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I figure what makes a person evil?

I don't think Putin has really done anything that other countries and their leaders haven't done at one point or another.

I don't agree with everything Putin has done mind you, its still Russia, but in comparison it seems par for course for the most part in terms of how leaders and their respective countries carry on with their day to day affairs both domestic and foreign.
