It's fair to say that Harris is failing spectacularly to handle the border issue, but I have to believe that she at least cares in some way, shape, or form about these people even if the Biden-Harris actions are having a harmful effect on foreign countries, on the U.S., and on the migrants themselves.
She stated that people should not simply come to the U.S. So, maybe, in some small way, she is starting to realize what the core problem is: massive unregulated displacement of people. She even stated that she now plans to eventually visit the border! Good for her!
When will that be? She can't say...
Progress might be slow, but, in some ways, progress might be inevitable. We'll see though. Hope for the best, but expect the worst.
On the other hand, she still seems to think that the core problem is conditions in other countries. In other words, she ascribes to the idea that if conditions improved in certain other countries such as Guatemala, then people would stop wanting to escape to the U.S. The reality is closer to: people would want to migrate to the U.S. even if conditions in their own countries improve (because personal freedom in the U.S. is still better).
Of course, improving conditions in other countries is a wonderful aspiration! But her approach appears to be to give countries that perpetuate worse conditions more money... Is she just incompetent?
