Sure. Robbery has not ended just gone online and from criminals operating in nations where their action is tolerated and perhaps encouraged as long as they attack certain nations - in other words Russia is a home for criminal gangs as long as they attack the West.

So it seems.
But I'm skeptical of something so difficult to verify.
Impossible to verify for a lowly groundskeeper.
But as Poly said....prepare for the inevitable.

Yes criminality is not going to go away. And no matter how well we protect are systems, someone somewhere is working a way to circumvent security efforts because there is big money in it.

Personally i recommend regular complete system backups.

The current administration, eh? Do you think what they say sounds reasonable? If not, why not?

Do you really think the Biden administration doesn't want to offend organised crime? You actually believe that, do you?

Biden making the push against China tougher and with more money is not wanting to offend China and Xi?

Biden blaming Russia for aggression in the Ukraine etc is not wanting to offend Putin?

Someone is living in a bubble.

We built the atomic bomb.
Russia built the atomic bomb.

Neither country was going to use it on the other. It was called a mutual deterrent.

The US must develop a CYBER branch of the military. A really good one. Then we should attack Russia's infrastructure. Shut it down for one day. Then make sure that Putin and Xi Jinping know we did it. Make sure they know that we consider an attack by their citizens an attack by the government for which we will retaliate.

Detente.

You seem to want to ignore that Trump told the Russians, before he was inaugurated, that Congressional sanctions for election interference would not be enforced by his administration.

There's an easy fix: decriminalize cracking. Creates a lot of opportunities for freelance security advisors and increases the chance that it isn't the Ruskies who crack your server first.

I had a job once that involved breaking into a device the company I was working for was thinking about buying. I succeeded.

"White hat hacking" is a business that companies can avail themselves of.

As if that wasn't obvious. We can try to improve our defenses, but the issue is not going to vanish.
Yep, I'm sure we're still in the infant stage of the swindle. Not much one can do to combat it. A more educated populace, when it comes to emails, would help.
My father was a victim of an attack, I think he was out a couple thousand.

Yep, I did similar things, most of them legally. But that only helps those companies that value security. Too many think that their data is save because it's illegal to crack into their servers. I'd like to make them an offer as it was possible before cracking became illegal.
