What does it actually mean to be saved in Christianity?

Psalm23

That still doesn’t answer the question. Just how does one obtain that eternal life? What do you do to get it? What about the person in Greece in 353 BCE, over 300 years before Jesus appeared. Or the person in Sumeria in 1513 BCE? That person couldn’t know of him. Is that person condemned to hell? How does that person get eternal life?

Eternal life through faith in Jesus. God is not limited to time or place in reaching out to people.

Often Christians say they are saved. But what is it?

This is a great question: I believe Jesus Christ saved the world from it sins. Okay that is one thing about being saved. This is for all people even people who have yet to make the choice to believe and trust God and Jesus.

How are they saved? and i would think it is in the christian bible somewhere, but does it actually letter by letter say, All you have to do is to believe Jesus died on the cross, and that make you saved?? It is this part i can not understand.

So basically; We are also saved from the blackness and darkness of our heart - I believe Jesus Christ, and God can restore a heart, and shine light into the darkness and change it (Ezekiel 36:26). May take time but it is possible. God promises to give a person who is believing a new heart, and a new spirit with-in them.

That spirit causes love by and through trusting and having faith in God rather than trusting ourselves, because we as human beings can fail, but God does not. He is forgiving, loving, kind, merciful ; since the payment of sin was completed on the cross by Jesus Christ, and the defeating of Satan, his angels, sin, the world, death.

I also believed we are saved from the world itself: The world itself is considered to only offer these things: (1 John 2:16) Pride of Life, Lust of the Eyes, Lust of the Flesh. ~ As believers though we live in this world and have to do worldly things to get by, have faith in Jesus Christ believers given a spirit, (Romans 5:1-5).

As long as you believe you can do anything you want, even sin and be immoral?

People can do that but Paul warns again this in Romans chapter 6. To not use our flesh to continue to sin but to rather serve God, and to look towards Him. We do mess up from time to time, but are not out trying to become malicious, judgmental, or condemning of others.

It is a very personal relationship with God, and the Lord Jesus Christ learning the scriptures: Jesus is the mediator between Man and God - No one else is.

I believe that a person is changed by the spirit when they come to the truth about Jesus Christ and what is presented!

(2 Corinthians 5:17 - If anyone in is in Christ He is a new creation, the old things have passed away, behold, the new life is here! )

Galatians 2:20, NIV: "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." ... And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."

Is there no inward change that must happen for a Christian to be saved?

This process can take time but at the same time we are in bodies of flesh that sin; and will sin until the very point of death, but the thing is we focus on Jesus Christ and God living by the spirit being born again (John 3), and living and trusting in God and the Lord friend.

Great questions I believe for a person who is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ ; God pulls them from darkness and places them into the kingdom of the Son; That is what we are saved from; and we are now saved to the Kingdom of Gods Son.

One more scripture reference and may you and your family have a good day @Conscious thoughts.

Colossians 1
9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

The work of God is to believe on the one whom was sent.

John 6:29: Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”

~ The work of God - > = Love by and through the spirit (Galatians 5)

People of the distant past didn’t know of Jesus. How can I have faith in someone who won’t appear for 700 years?

God had a plan for them; Those who died in Noahs flooded was visited by Christ Jesus when He had died.

God is most certainly understanding in situations (if a person hasn't been given the truth about Jesus or they haven't heard of Jesus) Todays information is people receiving straight up the truth about Jesus Christ now; and people still openly reject it; you can bring up people from the past of 700 years ago but that doesn't really mean much.

Where did they Go? is the question? Ecclesiastes 12:7. All souls go back to God, and of course all are judged after this life (either placed in the kingdom of God or outside of it ~ with a resurrected spiritual body). If people were preaching back in the early Ads; even after 70ad, the Gospel and the Good news never stopped proceeding forth generation after generation. So what is 700 years have anything to do with it @Jainarayan from your understanding?

I miss read your message I am sorry.

Before Jesus appeared, people were looking for a Messiah to come. There were people who didn’t know about a Messiah coming. I believe God could reveal this to people. From the very beginning I believe that God can reveal how to know him regardless of where they are and what they know of God.

It was an arbitrary number. People born 700 years before Jesus couldn’t know him to be their savior. So they’re saved anyway, without knowing him. But people in the highlands of Papua New Guinea today who have not heard of him are not saved?

So then belief in Jesus is not necessary if people live righteous lives according to their belief systems.

God knows those people situation, so I cannot worry about those things. And I understand what you are talking about. I believe everyone has been saved from their sins (past/present/future); and I believe that God can be understood as existing because of human creation, and the creation of the earth. If a person out in the aborigines is calling out to God - God will know these things; which all are indicated by and through the heart of the person whom is calling out to the Living God whom Created them saving them from darkness into the kingdom of His Son even if they do not know that exactly.

God is merciful, patient, loving, ; so I believe that in situations like are presented God is well capable and equipped enough to handle those things; and believe that God still desires for people to come to the knowledge truth about His Son; even if they have not yet got to hear about him; though there are people out there who go and try to share the good news with others too.

(1 Timothy 2:1-4) Eventually people will come to the truth be it in this life or the next.

What is saved? according to Jesus at Matthew 24:13 one must 'endure to the end' in order to be saved.
So, endure faithful to one's death, or be found faithful alive on Earth at the coming 'Glory Time' of Matthew 25:31-33,37.
For the living at this 'time of separation' in order to be 'saved' (delivered / rescued) one needs to be found faithful in order to be 'saved / delivered/ rescued' alive through the coming ' great tribulation ' found at Revelation 7:14,9.
So, one needs to exercise belief in Jesus, doing what Jesus instructed to do such as found at Matthew 24:14; Acts 1:8.

When you say endure to the end, do you mean having faith in Jesus to the end or do you mean something else?

Saved the world from its sins "IF" ( notice the word "IF" as found at 1 John 1:7 )
This is why Matthew 20:28 says Jesus' ransom covers MANY and does Not say all.

Guitar's Cry

Disciple of Pan
To be saved is to taste the fruit of the Cross--the Tree of Life and Death, often forgotten about in the Garden--and remember that "Eden is the kingdom of the father spread over the earth..."

In other words, Christ shows us that we are the children of God-- pieces of the living Universe.

That’s still saying that people who don’t know him will not be saved, correct? That more than kind of sucks, yes?

According to John 14:6, Jesus is the only way so people who don’t know him will not be saved. This is what I believe. I don’t like the idea of many not being saved. I don’t delight in the judgement of non-Christians especially not when I know them personally. I think it is something that bothers many Christians who believe in eternal judgment.

1 Timothy 2:6
He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time.

Do some studying on the payment for sin; I believe that all sin for all human kind that is born in this world have had their sins paid for once and for all.

Hebrews 10:1-18 will be an eye opener to this notion.

Would agree with your If - If we walk in the light - If we walk by the spirit - We are helped by the overcoming of sin because of the Son cleaning us from our sins.

We still mess up in sinning though it has been paid for... Lol it can get confusing a bit and I do not wanna type anymore. I still sin but it is the sin in my body; that is doing it and I hate that it does what it does... lol but Jesus Christ has taken care of those problems and we try to walk by the spirit and in light of christ.
