My thoughts on Putin seem to be coming true.

He wants to bring Russia back to its glory days as the former USSR.

'He needs him now': Pride and revulsion in Russia as troubled Putin lifts up Stalin

The article indicated some noticeable opposition to the monument to Stalin, something that would have been unheard of back in Stalin's day.

Putin is certainly a product of the USSR so the OP makes sense to me. Stalin was a classic authoritarian dictator and Putin's behavior echoes that authoritarian impulse.

I recently watched a show on the history of Russia's czars and think Stalin followed in their footsteps as Putin follows in Stalin's.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I watched the Russian military parade during the Communist China 75 anniversary's military parade. Putin was there at both parades incidentally.

That's when my suspicions started that Putin was dreaming of the old USSR.

As an aside, Putin's grandfather was Stalin's chef (and also Lenin's).
Maybe he cooked very good food. And without his cooking both would have been even better dictators (less humane)
