Israelis and Palestinians can’t go on like this. Weep for us.

This piece expresses how I feel. May the day soon come when Israeli says to Palestinian Shalom Aleichem (peace to you) and the Palestinian responds As-salaamu Alaikum (upon you peace) and both mean it from the bottom of their hearts. Because on that day the horror that is the region will be over.

My prayer:
May the Light of God's Silence break in every heart.
Let there be peace and love among all beings in the universe.

Israelis and Palestinians can’t go on like this. Weep for us.
...
At night, the furies, Jewish and Arab, fill streets in Israeli towns and attack people. Hamas, finding a chance to be noticed, throws rockets, not caring who they hit. Israel’s military aims carefully at Gaza. Either way, people are shredded.

I remember the first time I saw a pool of blood after a terrorist bombing in my neighborhood, and the first time I saw torn pieces of what had been a person on a downtown storefront. Bombs did not liberate anyone. If you have looked on these things, and you now hear of the rockets hitting Israel and buildings bombed in Gaza, then it is impossible to bear hearing people far away talk with certainty about which missiles are evil and which are necessary.

Weep, damn it, weep for us. Weep for this place in the season of wildflowers when it should be beautiful, weep for the dead and the living, weep for God who can’t get us to stop, weep for humanity.

Somehow this will stop. May it happen now, as you read this. We will see each other’s faces, each other’s pain. We will realize this cannot go on. We will find each other. It is what can come after anger and grief, what must come. I have to believe.

These words are what I have left after all the explanations and counterfeit certainties. I have tears for two peoples, tangled together, and hope that we’ll finally see that this can’t go on. We can’t let it.

**mod edit** The first step should be stop killing innocent women and children then, stop stealing land and homes from people. Without those 2 things in play the terrorist regime of Netanyahu will just keep lying about a 2 state solution as they continue to break every international and humanitarian law known to man

There are days like that. Contrary to what you allow the media, or some other source, to feed you, you may find many places in Israel, Judea & Samaria included, where there are people from both sides of the aisle on friendly terms.
At night, the furies, Jewish and Arab, fill streets in Israeli towns and attack people.
What a sad mischaracterization of the facts. One lynching of an Arab in Bat Yam against dozens of lynchings of Jews, boulder-throwings at Jews, burning of synagogues and elementary schools and yeshivas and pre-military academies, ransacking of homes, destruction of Jewish cars. Were we to weep, we should weep for the disgusting bias of the media, several of our politicians and the police.

I don't know what media you subscribe to, but from what I see the media has presented the blood spilled by both Jews and Arabs. There are extremist factions on both sides that do not and never will allow a two state solution. Nothing seems to have changed among these extremists since Anwar Sadat and Yitzhak Rabin, both assassinated by their own. Unfortunately I would expect the same today if any agreement to a two state solution was reached with Israel and Palestine.

Ours too. Yay, we both have biased media.
The media worldwide chooses to portray the violence of the last week as though it started as a unanimous decision by both Israeli Jews and Israeli Arabs to start a civil war. This is a lie. You won't find whole Arab neighborhoods afraid to leave their homes for fear of being beaten up by roaming gangs. The opposite is found by Jews in the mixed cities of Lod, Haifa, Acre and more. You won't find that dozens of mosques have been burned down. You won't find that Arab schools have been burned down. But dozens of synagogues and Jewish educational institutions have been burned down. The media have latched onto the few cases of Jew-to-Arab violence, as though they are representative of the whole. Anything to show the "true" racist underbelly of the Jewish Israelis.
Nothing seems to have changed among these extremists since Anwar Sadat and Yitzhak Rabin, both assassinated by their own
What does the former president of Egypt have to do with this?
Unfortunately I would expect the same today if any agreement to a two state solution was reached with Israel and Palestine.
It has yet to be proven that Yasser Arafat was assassinated, and in any case, it took years before he died, and he turned down offers of two state solutions.

When I read news of conflicts, the death toll of non-Jews
greatly exceeds that for Jews. Group punishment, home
demolition, military responses against civilians....we'd
never tolerate that here or in any ally....except in Israel.

The Palestinians are not the problem. Israel's brutal
refusal to be fair & to negotiate peace is. And its
grip on Ameirstanian politicians must end.

Actually, the Palestinians aren't the topic of the post you're replying to, at least not directly. I mean, I'm assuming you're talking about the second paragraph, right? I'm talking about the Israel Arab gangs that have been roaming mixed Israeli cities for the past week, wreaking havoc all over.

Oppression begets violence.
Solutions must start there.

Yasser Arafat was offered a two state solution.

He refused.

Question now is will it be offered again?

The 'solution' wanted by many is a one-state where Israel and Jews are blown clean away. Nothing will ever be good enough until they can have this.
This reminds me of a friend. He believes that the opposition
is fundamentally evil. He opposes all compromise as
appeasement that is at best useless, & at worst dangerous.
It's a recipe for everlasting hostility.
Israel will do what Israel will do, but I'd prefer that our
leaders not support them with billions of dollars per year.
We should use this to improve things, not ensure a violent
& oppressive status quo.

it's a big topic.
Taking land & homes from non-Jews...group punishment...
home demolition as punishment....excessive military assauts
on civilians. More....
Are Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel treated equally? | IMEU
I am aware that house demolition is only done to the homes of non-citizens when family members successfully commit acts of terror. Yet you have evidence that this is done also to the homes of citizens that commit acts of terror?

I don't know about the taking of land and homes, group punishment, military assaults, etc. Are you sure you're not conflating Israeli Arabs with Palestinians? All these seem to describe certain actions taken against Palestinians.

As for that article, the first 2/3rds are related to Israel's identity as a Jewish state. That was the sole reason Israel was even founded. That identity must be protected somehow. That's why there's a Law of Return (albeit, a defective one) for Jews and not for Arabs. To do otherwise would be like the USA giving citizenship to millions of people who actively oppose democracy. Once they become the majority, they will overturn the democratic nature of the USA, thus, effectively, destroying the USA, ideology-wise. Jewish symbols are likewise important to maintaining the Jewish identity of the country.

As for the last section:

Government resources, meanwhile, are disproportionately directed to Jews and not to Arabs, one factor in causing the Palestinians of Israel to suffer the lowest living standards in Israeli society by all economic indicators. Human Rights Watch has compiled an extensive study of Israel's policy of "separate, not equal" schools for Palestinian children, finding that "Government-run Arab schools are a world apart from government-run Jewish schools. In virtually every respect, Palestinian Arab children get an education inferior to that of Jewish children, and their relatively poor performance in school reflects this.

I admit I'm not knowledgeable enough about the going-ons of Israeli Arab society. I am aware of faults with regards to the relationship of the government offices and the Israeli Arabs. I do not defend that. However, this does not mean that Arabs don't have these rights, which is what we're debating here.

As many as 45 Palestinian villages in Israel, many of which pre-date the founding of the state, are not recognized by the Israeli government, and are not listed on maps and receive no services (water, electricity, sanitation, roads, etc.) from the government. More than 75,000 Palestinians live in these unrecognized villages. Meanwhile, hundreds of new Jewish communities have been established on lands confiscated from Palestinians.
Perhaps we should look into why they are not recognized. And what exactly are these "hundreds of new Jewish communities" that "have been established on lands confiscated from Palestinians"? Because it sounds like a reference to Judea and Samaria, a different topic. It seems to me that the article, in this sentence, at least, is conflating Israeli Arabs with non-Israeli Palestinians.

I think some folks are simply ignorant of the fact there's actually a difference between the two.
