Okay, will try to answer if possible with the scripture itself possibly, Frank Goad.
Please understand that I may be wrong ~
Verse 1, It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even pagans do not tolerate: A man is sleeping with his father’s wife.
Verse 1 - Paul is reporting to the Corinthian Church that it has been mentioned that sexual immorality has happened among the people there in this Church.
It was the type of sexual immorality that even the pagans, do not tolerate:
A man - is sleeping - with his own fathers ~ wife (Mother)
2 And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have gone into mourning and have put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this?
Verse 2: Apparently the some of the people there were proud (
Strong's Greek: 5448. φυσιόω (phusioó) -- to puff or blow up)!
Paul is mentioning this and asking ~
Should you not be mourning; and put out of your fellowship the man who has been doing this?
~ (Back then there was this push for the 1st church bride had to be holy/saints, because the people who are written to are always encouraged to be waiting for the Lord Jesus Christ to return)
3 For my part, even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgment in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this.
Verse 3: For (Paul) my part, even though I am not physically present~
Though the Corinthians do not have Paul physically there with them ~ Paul desires to them to know that even though because of him not being there physically.
Paul encourages them to be reminded: that Paul is with them in spirit - by hope, faith, trust in God - prayer and asking God to help them, - Pauls mind on them by the spirit to pray for them ~ This could be wrong insight ~ (Think for yourself)
As one who is present with you in this way, I have already passed judgement in the name of our Lord Jesus on the one who has been doing this.
(The person who is struggling with his fleshly nature and is defiling the church by being proud of what has been done by sleeping with his fathers wife - which would be the persons mother) ~ He should be removed from the Church because that is not proper to do
~ Sleep with your own Dads wife ~ : Even the pagans do not tolerate this... (verse 1)
4 So when you are assembled and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present,
Paul says when you are assembled and know that I Paul am with you in spirit - unity - mind - of Christ ~ by thinking, being thoughts of them - prayer and know and be encouraged that He does care, and He is also there by the power of - the - our Lord Jesus Christ, is also present among them in their assembly.
5 hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
I can not comment on this verse personally ; have hard it is to really understand what Paul is saying here by handing the man who is sleeping with his own mother to Satan - for the destruction of the flesh ~ So that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord.
Not right now anyway.
This is something that is fun to do, and if you took the time to see what was said, thank you ~ but do not believe me because can be wrong you decide for yourself if what is presented here is true or not, Frank.
