Basically, gay sex is like trying to eat through your ear, because ear is also hole in the head. I believe most people would understand what is the correct purpose of body parts and would consider such things wrong/stupid. I would say 70 % people would think it is not right.
Do you also consider heterosexual cunnilingus and fellatio "wrong/stupid"? Do you also think 70% of people consider heterosexual cunnilingus and fellatio is not right?

Let’s say religion never existed. Let’s start with a clean slate and take one idea. Homosexuality. In your best educated guess what percentage of the people do you think would say that being gay was wrong? I’m guessing the numbers would be in the majority. Where would we put the blame if not religion? I guess we’d have to put it on the individual.
How would you explain the pattern that in parts of the world where monotheistic religious dominance has reduced, acceptance of homosexuality has tended to increase?

The Romans and Greeks were surrounded by their Gods, but there was no problem with being gay or bi there and then.
It just seems to be Abrahamic religions..... and that law was only to increase the people and reduce sickness. And looked what folks turned that in to.

The voice of God is telling us to kill individuals?

Only the Abrahamics and a couple of ancient cultures here and there have issues with homosexuality. Everyone else seemingly couldn’t care less
So I would say most people wouldn’t be so quick to condemn it without religion
Maybe if the culture condemned it

What is the correct purpose? Reproduction you mean?

One thing that needs to be discussed is the impact of science and medicine on homosexuality and other types of alternate sexual behavior. Homosexual behavior, more so with homosexual males, leads to diseases. Science recognized this and created all kinds of precautions, and after the fact medicines, to deal with this disease problem. Now we have hidden medical wires that prop things up so the cause and affect of some diseases and behavior are less obvious. Many people live an illusion of their behavior being natural, even though propped up by science.

Before science, the social cause and affect of STD's could be inferred from certain types of behavior. Other than abstaining, there were no manufactured precautions or solutions in ancient cultures. Taboos appeared to protect people from themselves and lower the social costs. The only observed active sexual combination, that was more or less free of disease, was marriage between one male and one female. Disease is why things defaulted this way and taboos appeared. It was not a conspiracy.

Modern culture now has a wide range of medical prosthesis to protect people from themselves. However, the fact that such prosthesis is needed at all, shows that certain types of behavior are not optimized or natural. They have an extra social cost that religion was able to identify, early, even before science.

I was thinking about the new gender fad, since that fad is related to this discussion. What I saw as a common thread is all these combinations are socially influenced, self imposed methods of birth control. One cannot depend on all people taking the correct precautions for pregnancy. There is only one set of genders that can make children. The rest are sterile, in practical terms, based on the physical limits associated with those choices.

I can see this new fad as part of a Progressive plan to limit population growth and lower the amount of needed abortion. Abortion expanded into a problem, that appeared from the last generation of bonehead ideas. However, most of these new self sterile genders are still not able to avoid disease. But the disease prevention wires are much better hidden in plain sight. This helps to perpetuate the mythology of anything Progressive suggests as bring natural and good for you.

Maybe it went up a little but nothing n substantial
I'd argue shifting from criminalising homosexuality to state-supported same-sex marriage is significant and there is certainly correlation between those kinds of transitions and reduced influence from monotheistic religion. Equally, parts of the world that are still heavily influenced by religion tend to have negative attitudes and policies towards homosexuality.

Religion certainly won't be the only factor but I don't think you can justify dismissing it's relevance entirely.

Yes, that's exactly what we'd do. We who had thought a little more deeply on the subject might try to convince the individual that they are being irrational, and are realizing (as in, making real) fears that they simply shouldn't have. That's actually how it works now anyway - it's just that religious types love to pass the blame for their irrational discomfort onto other things. Such as "I didn't write the rules, God did." That's the type of thing someone says as a tacit admission that they have no good reasons. They didn't use the rational, logical parts of their brain to come to their conclusions. Not even close. They are likely relying on some visceral reaction they have to ideas of themselves engaging in homosexual activities. If it makes them, personally, feel uncomfortable, then they look for a way to demonize it to try and convince others that they shouldn't be doing the things that make them feel uncomfortable. And what better way than to hang a sign around "God's" neck, right? It is childish behavior, lacks any and all introspection, and is what one can expect from people who don't know how to take responsibility for their own thoughts.

I have to admit that I don’t know what those mean, and I actually don’t even want to know. But, if those are basically the same thing, then I think it is the same situation and as wrong/stupid.
