Biden's Policies Hurting Small Businesses

Walmart, alone, has driven MILLIONS of small locally owned businesses into oblivion, and nary a peep from the republicans or the blow-hards on FOX in DECADES. But now, suddenly, since Biden wants to try and help the working poor, even just a little, HE'S responsible of the plight of small businesses.

The hypocrisy is just absurd beyond limit!

Republican voters actually believe the corporatists when they say higher wages are bad for working people.

Over-paying for unemployment gives the recipient money,
& it's questionable whether this really helps them or others.
If this inspires people to eschew work for staying on the
dole, this is an awful result. Moreover, I know many who
continue to work (off government radar) while collecting
unemployment benefits. It's a sloppy give-away program.

As for Walmart....that's business competition, which is
the customer deciding who survives & who doesn't.
This is useful.

The right are more than happy to welcome Walmart into their small towns. While scratching their heads a year later as to why their small business is going under.

I notice that Walmart is typically surrounded
by many smaller businesses. I've no worries.

Businesses have routinely complained about worker shortages since at least the 1990s. It's one of the main reasons we've never had any true immigration reform, since businesses grew to depend on using undocumented workers, while claiming that it would be disastrous if ever they had to hire domestic workers or if any kind of amnesty was given. As a result, the government couldn't deport these workers nor make them legal.

Likewise, ever since the Reagan years, businesses have gone out of their way to gouge their customers and screw their employees every which way. As an example, the mining companies here in Arizona behaved disgracefully and dishonorably. Reagan made deep cuts in education, social services, and infrastructure to the point where our roads and bridges are falling apart, homeless are crowding the streets, and America is woefully lagging behind the rest of the industrialized world in math and science. This is how conservatives manage an economy, by driving it into the ground and making it more and more non-productive and backward. Conservatives and capitalists thrive on ponzi schemes and other get-rich-quick con games which have done nothing but scam the American people and put our country deeper in debt and economic malaise.

And now they're upset because they're failing according to the very same philosophy they've been worshiping these past decades. If you live by the free-market economy, you die by the free-market economy. The business community has been so spoiled these past decades that they've grown used to a dependent workforce and friendly governments. They've grown used to having everything handed to them on a silver platter, but now that they're facing real challenges, they act like spoiled teenagers proclaiming "IT'S NOT FAIR!"

I have no sympathy for these business owners. They should have seen this coming and prepared better for it. It was their choice, so now they have to take the consequences.

In a culture that WORSHIPS money as the giver and taker of life, of freedom, of opportunity, of peace, joy, happiness and security, I'm pretty sure that giving the poor a little more money when they are out of work HELPS THEM. And the fact that you aren't sure only exemplifies the abject insanity that comes from an economic system based on the presumed righteousness of greed, rather than on common sense or respect for humanity.

None of those people are going to keep that money. They are all going to spend it back into the hand of the wealthy elites that already own and control everything. But at least they get some bit of reprieve from poverty while that happens. Whereas the republicans would much prefer to simply hand it all directly over to their uber-wealthy masters and forget the poor all together. And so would you, apparently. As you seem far more concerned with them getting something you think they don't deserve than about the super rich who have already gotten far more than they deserve, getting all the rest of it, too.

No, what it is, is exploitation masquerading as "just business". It's the exploitation of foreign labor, the exploitation of domestic ignorance and greed, and the exploitation of our corrupted government resulting in the ultimate destruction of thousands of U.S. communities just so the Walmart family, who have done NOTHING to earn or deserve the billions of dollars in exploited profits they gain from all this abject suffering and destruction. Which you apparently not only applaud, but seem to believe is somehow, bizarrely, good for us.

The upshot...
I'd rather be exploited by capitalism than by socialism.

Ah, beauty of free enterprise!
Yes, but you side with Walmart over small business. That's our difference.
Republicans love corporate policies over worker policies. The corporations tell them that corporations are good for workers. (there will be a scary narrative attached to the message)

I've heard that part of Walmart's business model is that they hire people on welfare checks and pay them just a low enough wage that their employees still have to rely on those.

Ah, beauty of free enterprise!
Walmart really is the pinnacle of mid-20th century style capitalism writ large, isn't it

I side with both.
Let the best competitor win.

BTW, I very seldom buy from Walmart.
I find better deals elsewhere, eg, Menards, Aldi, Trader Joe's,
Meijer, Amazon, ebay, Tractor Supply, Costco, Discount Tire.

Why wouldn't you buy from Walmart, by your own metric they are the objectively best competitor, soon only to be surpassed by Amazon.

Subsidies and tax breaks aren't available for small businesses like they are for Walmart. It's unfair out of the gates.

They are the best for many but not all needs of all customers.
Business & economics are more complex than you think.

And it's even worse for Amazon, who have enough political power to effectively bully entire states to give them unwarranted tax breaks, all on the promise of "jobs" that almost never materialize in the promised amount.
