The best diet (way of life) so far discovered is the Whole Food Plant Based (WFPB) Diet. Among many other benefits, it does seem to counter (and even cure) Crohn’s Disease.

As for the OP, most of us don’t get outside into the sunshine enough to maintain healthy levels of Vit D, and most of us in the modern world don’t get enough dirt (and ergo soil bacteria) in our food to maintain healthy levels of B12. So just about everybody should be taking those two supplements. Otherwise, a good, well rounded diet supplies us with all the micronutrients we could need.

I watch my diet as I'm a type-2 diabetic with relatively high blood pressure. However, I also have to take diabetic medication [minimal dose] and also vitamin's B12 and D. I'm 76 with no heart conditions and I exercise 6 days per week.

I eat healthily, as in fresh and wholesome foods plus take a multivitamin pill each morning. During winter i also supplement with vitamin D.

However it wasn't always so. In my 20s i became, shall we say, to save a couple of paragraphs of uninteresting ailments, not well. Doctor recommended vitamin tablets and i have never looked black.

Reminds me of a story ... Back in university my landlord was a quirky Scottish doctor. His wife had sadly passed but he'd reinvested his money accrued from years as a doctor into real estate, so he could raise his two children. I was the manager of two of his apartment buildings, so we'd chat it up.

His medical practice had been in a community bordering on the Canadian North, and he had lots of indigenous patients, and some lacked nutrition. He also has a rich 'fancy' lady who would come begging for prescriptions for more vitamins and tests. He told me that one day he got so fed up with her, and the stark contrast in poor versus rich that he said, "Look, Ma'am, I could keep your pee and feed it as a supplement to these poor folk, and their health would improve dramatically."

So, yes, the body can only use what it needs.

but it seems to store sooooooo much

except....vitamins

vitamin C is water soluable
flushes from the body within a day

BUT....I did have an overdose
ate what must have been 20,000times the daily dose

got a nose bleed

realized later......some things are dangerous in high amounts

My daughter had a close friend pass from copper poisoning, he had a condition where it built up in him, body couldn't rid itself of it. He passed at a young age.

I take an OTC probiotic for IBS and 'plant stanol esters' to reduce cholesterol. Before COVID I took a variety of ginseng and zinc when I thought I was more at risk of getting a cold/flu.

When COVID hit, I started Vitamins C & D, daily zinc lozenges and a daily dose of a variety of ginseng.

Meals are salad and veg and a variety of protein (lentils, fish, chicken, beef, pork) for lunch/dinner. Oat bran, yogurt and fruit for breakfast.

Whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies, dairy twice a day (yogurt), and proteins to include beef, chicken and pork (leaner cuts). As little from box or package as possible.

Currently take vitamin D and Calcium (Dr recommended), due to IBS causing my body not to absorb these efficiently.

I'm supposed to be on the FODMAP diet for IBS but I haven't been able to make the adjustments needed.
