dramatic weight loss?

In the past, has anyone here achieved dramatic weight loss?

If so, please share your story!

When I was around 21 years old I went from 300 pounds to 160 pounds!

I did this by smoking and starving myself

In 2004 I was diagnosed with an eating disorder and was hospitalised for unrelated psychiatric reasons!

I put most of it back on but then managed to lose most of that again

Starting today, I am now on a weightless program. I need to lose weight urgently. I've really let myself go.

Currently, I weigh:
  • 27 stone and 12 pounds
  • 390 pounds
  • 177 kg
I need to lose:
  • 10 stone and 12 pounds
  • 152 pounds
  • 69 kg
The plan is to simply do more and eat less.

Today, someone gave me a very late birthday today - a fitness watch!

Have just done a walk/jog combo with it and feel amazing

I used to be able to run 10k runs, I was even once in training for a half marathon

But in 2016 I had to go to hospital (again) so couldn't run and they didn't have a gym

So I lost my fitness and piled on the pounds

And became fat and unfit

Also, weight gain is a side-effect of my meds

Am going for another walk/jog later today once the sun's gone down

I love the high that comes from exercise

The friend that decided my husband and I should marry did so with the aid of a picture. I am not a photogenic person(I actually look better in person than in photographs, oddly), but my friend had one very good picture of me, and one in which I was in good shape.

He lured my husband to the phone with this picture. "Hey, wanna see who I'm talking to?" At that point he snatched the phone from him. He proceeded to shamelessly hit on me, and I proceeded to crack jokes at his expense for doing so, one after another. Apparently, he like the abuse, because he kept calling back.

The problem came when we were going to meet. I was not as thin as that picture anymore. I wasn't too fat, perhaps a bit pudgy, but I had two weeks to look like that picture. I ate one meal every 48 hours, and stated exercising(I was 26 at that time, so metabolism hadn't betrayed me yet). In two weeks, I lost a bit over 15 lbs. And it stayed off for several years(until pregnancies came about).

Perhaps he wouldn't have cared if I'd have kept that extra weight on, but it mattered to me.

The weights strapped to the back isn't the same for your heart function. I suggest walking at first and slowly build up distance. My neighbour did that and lost 12 stone over about 18 months.
That's exactly what I did when I became fit the first time!

I did fartlek

Fartlek - Wikipedia

In which I ran some and walked some, and gradually increased the running and decreased the walking until I was only running

Yes, at 6' 2" I weighed over 255 lbs five years ago. I'm down to 175 as my current weight this morning. I dropped 60 lbs in the first year, and then maintained that weight of 195 for a few years. I then dropped another 10 lbs and maintained 185 for about a year, then recently dropped the last 10 lbs a few months ago and am maintaining around 175 since.

What I've learned really is the key is simple. Portion size. Don't do crazy starvation things, fad diets of meat only, or such. What I did that first year where the weight melted off weight consistently over the year was to simply have fresh juice for lunch, along with a few nuts or an egg for protein. That was comparable to eating a giant salad for lunch, all pulverized into a juice I would drink. Plenty of energy for the day, and way more so than bulking lunches. That in itself, shrunk the stomach size and the expectation of the brain of what it meant to be full. I could be full, without feeling full. I had normal dinners, but very light if no breakfast, with fresh juice for lunch as a normal day.

That retrained the brain to say smaller volume hitting the stomach, is full. I got used to smaller portions. And smaller portions is what stopped weight gain and reversed it for me. Same each time I start gaining a little extra through unmindful eating. Just retrain the brain to expect smaller sizes and be satisfied with less. It's all about reprogramming with intention, rather than programming our bodies to want more and more volume. The body will do what we tell it to do, rather than complaining, "but I'm not full", and letting the habit of the program dictate our choices.

I feel great being a healthy weight for my body type, which is naturally thin to begin with. I have a ton more energy and agility now.

Another top tip: watch your interprandial gaps! Try to maximise time space between your tea and your breakfast. No supper snacking!

Brother in law is on antipsychotic meds and really struggles with weight gain associated with them.

He eats fresh, healthily foods and counts the calories so never over eats.

He exercises regularly, twice a day with weights, skipping, push ups etc, has a punch bag that he has a few rounds with.

He also used to do a lot of walking but covid has effectively put a stop to that which has been detrimental to his weight regime and has gained a couple of stone because of it.

He has recently realised he has the extra wright and has increased his exercise and reduced his food intake by about 10%. Up to now he hasn't lost any but at least he hasn't gained any more.

He is soon due his second covid jab and despite his paranoia has promised himself to get out and walk again after the jab.

Ramble over, now for the juicy stuff.

A friend is a dietician who says you cannot loose weight if you don't go hungry.

Yes I have. Carbs, simple carbs are the culprit to building fat. Protein based diets work well because the body simply discards unused proteins. Plus, high carb intake stimulates insulin to balance sugar which gives the effect of being hungry when you aren't.

I've done Atkins which was no more than 30 grams of carbs a day. That was hard, didn't feel well for the first couple weeks. Lost 45 pounds.

Fasting 16-8 for 5 days. Example, last HEALTHY meal at 6:00PM, NOTHING but water, BLACK coffee if you drink it until 10:00 AM the next day. Do your eating within the next 8 hours until 6:00 PM. Repeat!. 5 days on, 2 day normal HEALTHY eating, not sugar/carb crap!

I've also done the "boiled egg diet" if you like eggs. It works!!! and I didn't feel as hungry at all.
