Comparison of digital music stores - Wikipedia

The above article shows a list of places that sell mp3's and includes some feature comparisons. Who do you feel should be patronized? Who is the 'Religious' choice?

ps:
Google Play does not sell music titles, so they are not in the list. They are not being excluded and just don't sell music singles.

I prefer artists web site because they get the money. I've bought CDs and ripped them for the same reason.

Other than that, ('ve used CD Baby, Amazon and the iTunes store at various times in the past.

Are there any digital music sources (other than illegal ones) dealing with the older and/or less popular pieces (like not the popular stuff or similar genres), since I seem to have too many older vinyl albums either not on CD or the CDs not available now, and some cassettes with the same issue, and where I can't digitise much of what I have because of lack of equipment? Mainly interested in obtaining Mp3s so I can do as I want with such rather than any streaming services.

We get a free ssubscription to Deezer with our internet package, it's a streaming service so no download. You can also use it in a slightly limited way for free.

We also buy CDs on occasion but not so often.

There are places that will digitize tapes, vinyl etc. Take a look on the internet for one near you.

Or for not much money there are music centres that will digitize the music to memory stick.

I still record the local country music stations onto cassettes. I know that's old school but my dad and his dad did they same and now I have all of their tapes and an ancient but faithful boombox that's twice the age I am. My truck also has a tape deck.

Only iTunes, just because the library is huge and I'm not familiar with the others.

My only complaint with it is that it doesn't download mp3s so I have to change them if I want to burn them to a disc. However, now days I rarely need to do that, as I mostly replay them from an ipod.

What format does it provide? How do you convert yours?

Do these digital downloads cost money? Are they recorded in a physical format that can't be deleted by a third party?

I used to be able to record any TV or radio program free, at will, anonymously, and in hard, unassailable format.

It used to be "mp4" (mp3 with nuisance proprietary coding) but I don't know what it is, now. And there was a conversion option in the mac burn-to-disc program. Now days I don't really make discs anymore, so I'm not sure what I'd encounter if I tried. Unfortunately, Apple wants to rule their own corporate fiefdom and so has a tendency to make interaction with other devices difficult. But I like their products so I tend to stay in the fold, anyway.
