Happy Yom Ha'atzma'ut!

The State of Israel is now 73.

I'm not aware of any other country that moves the celebrations of its independence day depending on what day of the week it falls on. But Israel does, whenever there's a chance that the celebrations will cause a desecration of Shabbat. So this year it has been moved two days back. For this same reason it was very important for Ben Gurion to finish the declaration of the State before Shabbat started.

It's a time to give thanks to Hashem for the wonders He has shown to us over the last 73 years and counting.

And, as we say here in Israel, a time to enjoy the "mitzvah" of the day, which is barbecuing...:D

May we have many happy returns. :)
