The Wedding Feast......retold

halbhh

The wonder and awe of "all things".
In that verse 23:3 he goes on to explain what he means speaking of putting heavy weights upon others. This may correspond to the barriers to conversion in the church which are an important topic in the early churches. As for Pharisees doing everything for show...well.. What I'd keep in mind is that Matthew appears to be a dialogue between Christians about how to approach conversion, but many people have taken it to be a treatise upon Pharisees. In modern times we each have access to much more information about Pharisees, and I know that they always believed in personal humility and not in self exaltation. For example reading Josephus can show this. I'd take this chapter 23 to be not a treatise on what Pharisees believe but perhaps more hyperbole to make a point.
I'd submit that there isn't any non-trivial blanket characterization of any group with significant numbers of individuals in it. Some of the Pharisees followed Christ, such as very famously Saul of Tarsus (after persecuting Christians unto death). Some did not. Some sought God, some did not. There isn't a blanket approval or disapproval, but Christ did meet some that were not at all righteous we can see. (it could be they sought him out to try to challenge him) But if you chose 50 random individuals, you'd get a mixed group I'd expect.

Skanky Old Mongrel!
So......see yourself as a poor farmer
no horse....no plow......only the hoe in your hand
and the hope ....the seeds you have will feed you

then some damn fool! ...comes riding through your work .....at full gallop
the furrows are spoiled and the seed scattered

you take a deep breath......and undo the damage
replant the seed

then the same damn fool!.....comes riding through your work.....AGAIN!
going back the way he came

and what can you do?.......you curse the day he was born
and replant the seed

THEN!......that same damn fool comes charging back!
and you are willing at this point to stand in his path!
let him gallop right over you!

but he breaks his speed and dismounts......approaches you to say
My Lord would have you attend His Feast

no apologies for the damage done
no explanation for the invitation
only the requirement......COME NOW!
this very moment

so.......you mount the horse behind the Rider
and off you go

and as you were told .....there is a feast
and it's the greatest thing as ever you did see

you are seated....and you just go for it
you've never had food like this

and then Some Guy comes around.....and you see Him coming
looking around
and He doesn't seem happy

He spots.....YOU.....
and upon approach wants to know.....WHY? are you not properly dressed

you look about you .....no one is dressed any better
ALL who are seated......are common
in face and manner of dress

you have no response

the servants are called.....and you are seized upon.....bound hand and foot
and thrown out the Door

to suffer under whatever finds you helpless
Yeah. This same lord had already destroyed his neighbouring city on a huff because his neighbours didn't want to come. Then he goes barging around taking travellers off the roads, then he complains because one hadn't got the right dress code on.
To hell with lords like that.

It does remind me of the 3 little piglets story...huff huff and the house is blown down unless built of bricks.

Well, it was a parable, and the carpenter was takking about the Temple and its corrupted priesthood.

Nothing wrong with the teller, but there might be with whoever mangled the interpretation. :)
