No craving for meat

Spirit of Light

Be who ever you want
As some of RF members maybe know, i am a vegetarian when it comes to food. But what i have not spoken so much about is after i did stop eat meat, it has been in my thoughts and i been thinking how it would be to eat meat again. (kind of an inner craving to try to eat meat again)

Last weekend i was with friends who was eating A LOT of meat, and i was eating my vegetarian food, that is not so special in it self, but in the past when this happen, the feeling of wanting to take some of the meat and eat it was always there.
But last weekend, not a single thought of the meat arised in the sense of wanting to eat it, even when my friends jokingly wanted me to try, there was not on my mind to try to eatit, nor was it a thought of "oh no i cant eat it".
I know i would not take any damage of eating a little. but it just isn`t a big deal to me anymore. there are so many other substitutes for meat that i enjoy food actually almost more now.

Even when i go shopping for food, i do not notice the meat section anymore. it is just there for others to eat if they like :)

The desire for meat isn't a real physical craving, just a psychological one. Anyone who has quit smoking, or dried out from booze knows what a physical craving is. When you're hungry, you crave food, but not a specific type of food. Meat has no addictive chemicals in it, as far as I know.

My husband lost desire for meat as well... while not being vegetarian.

It started with chicken. Started making him sick. Stopped eating it. He is a chef by trade, and one day the beef came into the restaurant.... full of bullets. That was the end of beef for him. Having never cared for pork, he was left with seafood, which he'd claimed, as a former beach bum, he'd always eat. A couple years back, he opened a can of tuna and started eating... "Can't do it. Makes me feel sick." And that was the end of that.

He never consciously chose to go vegetarian, he just lost any desire to eat meat.

I think all addictions are mainly problematic to overcome due to psychological addiction, physical part is not too hard compared to that

Once I fasted on watermelon only, for 50 days (water till 14:00 and after 14:00). After ca. 4 days all my physical addictions were gone, but it took 21 days before all my psychological addictions were gone. Was a real cleanser in that way; a tough one though. Could not do it again, max. 30 days when I tried again.

Taste preferences are not in the mouth or the nose, they reside only in the mind.

Short anecdote. My partner, until 2-3 years ago, worshipped at the altar of cheese, but then gave up eating dairy. A few days ago whilst in a food store she cut through the cheeses aisle and found that the smell of the cheeses was repulsive to her. Same food, same taste buds, same nose, different mind.

I've found the taste buds do change periodically. Normally, they change to suit what you're stuffing into your mouth(for positive or negative), but I've noticed my oldest son's does this every two years on his own. He's only liked very bland for the last two years, but this last week we've caught him sneaking hot sauce(he's old enough for ego to come into play now).

It’s great that you’ve lost your pointless and self-destructive (and planet-destructive) addiction to meat. However, just be aware that I’ve had several friends and even family members who were off meat for months to years, then “tried some” during a meal....
Sick as a dog for the next 24-36 hours.

Next, you need to leave the dairy products behind. :):)

I have also heard that if a vegetarian start eat meat again after some time, they will get really sick.... I will not try hehe :)

When it comes to leaving dairy products, it is something i believe will happen naturally if it is meant to be. I do not drink milk and have not done it since i was a child (except for in Cappuccino )

I understand the isolation vegetarians feel sometimes. Being a piscetarian is a bit easier in terms of "meat" supply but not ethics: I still believe sealife have a mind. Therein I am conflicted.

That's great! I personally still struggle with the craving for meat, but hopefully I will be able to overcome it soon (at least a little bit).

The problem with many meat subtitutes is that they often contain onions or garlic and beans are too heavy for me to digest and so I try to avoid those too.

When I quit meat at the age of 20, I never craved eating it again. This was also due to mainly associating with vegetarians after the change.
Over time the smell and sight of meat, poultry, fish and even eggs became more repulsive to me. I can now look at it without feeling anything negative, but I certainly don't like the vibes around the butcher section in the supermarket and try to ignore it.

When I tried to stop with dairy it was easy to give up milk. Yoghurt took longer and cheese, especially on pizza took the longest. Cheese however makes me less alert and has lost its attraction for me now.
But I would not avoid it when forced to go hungry (unlike with meat).
