Can someone explain this

A quote from: MAGICK: It's All In Your Head
Asbjorn Torvol

NEXT to the Law of Mentalism and mind the second most important concept in the foundation of the magicians magick. Just like the rest of my foundation this goes straight back to Hermeticism. As above, so below; as below, so above. — The Kybalion This law of correspondence embodies the concept that which is “above” is like to that which is “below”, and that which is “below” is like to that which is “above. The “above” is a reference to the macrocosm, the very large or the totality, while the “below” is a reference to the microcosm, the small or the individual. At its core this law tells us that the macrocosm, the seemingly outside/external world is but a reflection of our inner world/self. They are reflections of each other that cannot be separated. Just as each individual exists within the all, the all also exists within each individual.

Can someone explain this for me? I am having a hard time grasping it.

Ok now that Ive gone back reread the chapter on the law of mentalism I get both concepts now. I think. Would like to still have my question answered just in case I am wrong.

I am not a member of the Dir but have a question about this. I once found a video by Poke Runyon on what he called the magic of Solomon. It involved speaking into mirrors and talking with inner voices, and he claimed this was what magic was about. Is that generally the idea?

What are you having a hard time grasping here? I found it straight forward, I think. Mind you I do not know the Law of Mentalism or anything of its ilk. So take my advice with a grain of salt.

This sounds like scrying, almost.

Scrying - Wikipedia.

Although, I'd disagree with it requiring one to speak with voices in their head. That's a little much. I might receive messages from the Gods this way, but it's nothing like talking with head voices.

What do they mean by the outter world being a reflection of the inner world? Do they mean our perceptions make our reality?

I can give the way I use it: Your intentional, conscious acts inform your unconscious mind, which forms the habits you fall back on when you are unmindful. As above, so below. Hopefully, you will build skillful habits rather than unskillful habits.

That is one take on it yes. Our perceptions do shape our reality.

A messy house equates a messy mind, and so forth.

It means there are universal patterns. Inner and outer. Also macrocosm and microcosm.
