Nigeria: Man stoned to death, set ablaze in front of police by radical Islamist mob on charges of blasphemy.

'On Tuesday (March 30) morning, a water vendor was stoned to death and set ablaze by an Islamist mob in Sade village in the Bauchi State of Nigeria. The incident took place in the backdrop of accusations that the victim had allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad.

As per reports, the deceased has been identified as Talle Mai Ruwa. He was a Muslim by faith and was ‘mentally disturbed.’...

...On Tuesday morning, the whole town gathered at one place and then ambushed the police station. At that time, Ruwa was in his prison cell. The cops were highly outnumbered by the Islamist mob, who then took the matter into their own hands. The victim was first escorted out of his prison cell and pelted with stones. While unleashing violence, the Islamist mob continued to raise the slogan of ‘Allahu Akbar.’ The stoning continued until Ruwa lay motionless. The mob then doused his body with petrol and car tyres and set him on fire in front of his elderly mother.'

What a way to treat the mentally ill! And seemingly no consideration for the effects of trauma on his elderly mother too.

Well, just so long as you have assured yourself that God approves that sort of thing...

Here in the U.S. it was 'death by cop'.

There are a lot of ways to die in this world. And lots of people who are only too happy to accommodate that wish.

Those who did and approve this:
1) Possessed by the Devil
2) Bestial behavior
3) Inhumane
4) Demonic
1) No
2) Yes
3) Yes
4) No.
They are humans. Humans, without the assistant of supernatural spooks and ghouls, are capable of very terrible things. It is a disservice to insist there is something "else" that isn't human controlling them. We are animals, and though we like to lie to ourselves and pretend otherwise we still very much behave like animals.

I guess that makes everything fine and dandy. No one is a saint, so let the sin begin and moral considerations end.

There is no credible or solid evidence to support the hypothesis of demonic possession. Where you may see spiritual entities at work, science has revealed genetics, brain structures, and upbringing all play a role in shaping who we are. From schizophrenics and epileptics, serial killers and Tourette's syndrome and involuntary muscle tics, science shined a light in the dark and we found there are no ghosts.
We are humans, we are animals. If that doesn't explain it then you need to explain if spiritual forces are so powerful they can exist outside of the natural world we know, they can take control over people as if the possessed individual is a puppet, but yet so utterly weak that modern medicine can subdue and silence these otherwise very powerful beings.

I still disagree with your opinion. But I can live with that

This kind of empty and pseudo-intellectual apathy to crimes against humanity when outrage is inconvenient is exactly why I no longer identify as a liberal.

The American left seems to be harboring an increasing amount of regressive and selectively apologetic thinking.

Sorry. I just didn't feel like joining the useless outrage parade, today.

Outrage at a crime such as the one in the OP is far from useless. In fact, we could use a lot more of it in the world.

Tu quoque and red herrings, on the other hand, are indeed both useless and arguably morally irresponsible in many cases.

Nowadays, vocally opposing crimes inspired by Islamist extremism in Africa doesn't seem to signal virtue to many liberals as much as using social media to demonize white people or going for the low-hanging Republican fruit. Better focus on what tends to cater to the groupthink, eh?
