A few years ago i tried to "hide" from the government both here in Norway and especially NSA from USA, i used all the fancy tools to be unseen online. But soon realized how much work it involved to be off grid, and what do i have to hide anyway. If the big cooperations want my info they get it anyway.

The idea that "only those doing wrong need to worry" is one of the biggest pieces of authoritarian apologetics ever conceived. Almost anything could be viewed as "wrong" by those carrying out the overly intrusive surveillance. Just look at blasphemy charges for online posts in some countries as an example.

This is not a surprise for anybody living outside of America.

What are you doing that's illegal, that has you so worried?

That's a bit of a spurious question, is it not? I don't need to have anything illegal going on in order to not want people to spy on my private conversations, sensitive personal data, business transactions, or any other information that really shouldn't be the business of organizations not directly involved in them.

Privacy is a human right, and I frankly find it shocking how casually people who value that right are frequently derided in discussions online, as if feeling very strongly about one's basic human rights was somehow worthy of suspicion or mockery.



This position, I might add, can be independent of a deep suspicion for an agency that has, in the past, freely abused said data to secure unfair advantages of economic and political nature, hunted down dissenters, and is still using its political influence to guarantee that a large number of companies have become vulnerable to criminal hacking due to mandatory digital backdoors in commercial software.

I'm not worried, I'm too old to care.
However, it is well understood on this forum that I am right of center on polictical and some social philosophies and with some calling for the re-education of those that support those ideals who knows. I am all for fighting it all the way...however, in my view, global control is inevitable:

Indeed, I do not use Google, except YouTube on occasions, nor do I use Faecebook or Twatter. I keep my use of Amazon to an absolute minimum, not least in order to support my local High Street. I have the location service turned off on all my devices.

The EU has some rules to control the use these companies make of personal data, but it probably does not go far enough, yet.

I used to live in the UK which has the distinction of being one of the most surveilled country in the world with approximately 7.5 cctv cameras per 100 people. I always considered this an intrusion into privacy until a friend had her handbag snatched. She stopped a passing police car just a few seconds later, gave a description of the thief. Police caller it in, cctv operator's picked up the culprit and followed him right to his home. Bag and personal effects recovered within 7 minutes.

So yes, an intrusion that does have ar least one good use.

Well, yes. That is old news. In practice we are not free, but freedom is in sense an illusion and always in practice how much you can do as you without others trying to control you.

I'm glad you brought up this very vital subject. We all know that the big companies you mentioned are really part of the Government/Deep State. We all know that the Pandemic and the Covid shots are just a ruse to implant transmitters into our bodies.

That, exactly, is the crux. The corporations have asked for permission and the customers have given the permission. I won't speculate what permissions you have given to your SO to do to you in the bedroom, but imagine some government agent doing that to you without your permission. Still the same?
