No, but they are interesting. I hear some chemicals can replicate the experience, such as N-dimethyltryptamine. The fact they can be replicated makes me think they come about by the chemicals released in your brain while it's shutting down... Pretty cool, really. :)

N,N-Dimethyltryptamine

My father was mugged, hit across the head with a half brick that shattered his skull. During a month long coma he died 3 times. He distinctly remembers dying and to this day claims he only came back because god is a lousy poker player.

That's pretty damn serious, and I'm sure experiencing that was really scary for you... Glad he was able to pull through!

That said, for some reason I can't help but imagine god thinking of himself as this hotshot now, thinking he's the dog's ballocks of poker, and utilizing all the tricks and tactics that professional poker players utilize...

I also want to imagine that god is a sore loser, and throws tantrums, too. :D

Although my parents are both christian neither believe in god as a being but more a state of mind. So when dad talks about his games with god it makes me chuckle.

What do near-death experiences mean, and why do they fascinate us?

Is this something you have experienced yourself? What happened?
Yes. Like it mentions in the article, it profoundly changed my life. It was the experience of being out of time and surrounded by brilliant white light. I saw my childhood play out before me in an instant. I felt infinite love, compassion, awareness, knowledge, and absolute power embrace me as I looking into an infinity of infinities (impossible to put into words), where each sliver of infinity was an infinity in itself, with an infinity of infinities everywhere, all connected, and all one.

Following this, the entire universe opened exposing that same energy of light and love in a brilliant exchange of Life itself, every blade of grass, every living thing, radiated that same Life/Love. That same Energy permeated my own body, and it became connected with everything, the whole world, in this living, vibrating, dynamic exchange of infinite joy. (see listed as my "religion" on my profile).

I've not had a fear of death since then, and the course of my entire life was set for me to try to understand, build upon that, and ultimately to return home to that.
