So there was an announcement that they’re going to do a reboot of Supes with JJ Abrams directing. Only it will feature the multiverse Superman, Calvin Ellis rather than Clark Kent. I think Micheal B Jordan has supposedly got the role.
For reference
Calvin Ellis
And
J.J. Abrams' Superman Reboot Reportedly Won't Feature Clark Kent
What do you think? I’m kind of excited for some “new blood” as it were. Explore different angles. Different ideas.
I’m a DC fan at heart so I kind of hope this will reinvigorate the lagging (imo) DCEU.
Who’s your favourite version of the Blue Boy Scout?
Who is your dream casting?
Which is your preferred movie/iteration of the character?
I kind of like when they do an elsewhere version of him being all “evil.” Makes things a bit more interesting.
Bonus question, anyone actually going to watch the infamous Snyder Cut of Justice League or has seen it if it’s already out?
I mean it’s supposedly like 3 or 4 hours, right?
I’m curious just because of all the hype. But I dunno

I've never liked Superman, but I feel sorry for the fans with this seeing as how he earned the name Jar Jar Abrams the way he did Star Wars and especially Star Trek.
Haha true. Though I didn’t hate the new trilogy. The so called “Fandom Menace” ruined Star Wars way more than Abrams. At least for me

I loathed and detested the new one, and wished Han had died on Endor like Harrison Ford wanted since they threw out tons of great canon, and screwing up Chewie getting to repay his life debt to Han.
And then basically blowing up another Death Star? How many times are they going to make us rewatch "fly inside the ship to blow it up from the inside out"?
And since when in the hell have Stormtroopers bled through their armor? Never.
I kind of anticipate a JJ Abrams Superman being an Al Qaeda raised extremist, something that is just that far off and that wrong.

Hmm shows how much of a casual fan I am since that never bothered me lol

Ehh, there is the Red Son storyline. Supes is literally raised in Russia and is like communist Superman. DC recently adapted the comic for their animated film list. It’s a cool movie/storyline
And this adaption, if it is going to happen, is not based on Clark Kent. But on the version of Superman who happens to be a black man and president. The story goes that the writers based him partially on Obama. But that’s just what I’ve heard

Superman has a fundamental problem.
Being impervious to everything means that writers
must come up with vulnerabilities. And they've done
a poor job of that...looking arbitrary & strained.

Marvel has much better superheroes. The best
new one is Domino...the gal whose power is
incredible luck.
Alas, ever since the Toby Maguire Spiderman,
they've been making the web less & less compelling.

I don't know if you ever saw it but there was a cool storyline they started called Spiderman Evolution. They could have gone places with it. Much better than a revamp in my opinion.

A character they seem to forget is Doom. He's very interesting.

Sorry, but this movie is shaping up to be Woke garbage, with this noted race hustler penning the screenplay: Ta-Nehisi Coates to Write New ‘Superman’ Movie for Warner Bros. and Producer J.J. Abrams

I'm sure he'll make it so that Superman is an escaped slave and white supremacy is his kryptonite. This crap is out of hand.

I’m not going to jump to conclusions. Mr Coates’ Black Panther run seems acclaimed from everything I can find.
(I’m not American remember.)

Who’s your favourite version of the Blue Boy Scout?
The late 1990's version and also the 90's comic version of Lex Luthor....however I like the recent film version of General Zod better than the 90's comics Zod and the 1980's film Zod. I like the updated version of Krypton and backstory in which Krypton is under threat from Brainiac. In comics Brainiac is invented by Lex Luthor but frees itself and becomes its own thing, and it has various roles in different universes. In one storyline it duplicates itself many times, creating many brainiacs. The 90's comic Brainiac takes Lex Luthor's daughter as a guarantee of Luthor's promises, she then is angry with her father and becomes allied with Brainiac as well as being augmented by Brainiac. I do not like the storyline in the film Man of Steel in which superman leaves both Earth and Lois Lane without notice for seven years and then returns without notice. That is not super behavior. That is irresponsible without some backstory to explain it.

Who is your dream casting?
For Superman? I would give a try out to long shots like Simon Helberg. Another thing is I'd try to steal the Dr. Who trick and give superman the power to disguise himself. The Clark Kent glasses always seem like a plot hole, but if superman can disguise himself better then its not just the glasses. Then superman can be two or three people not just two.

I like his first two Trek movies very much. The third had some aspects that pulled me out of the story and seemed less philosophical. Sometimes the philosophical stuff keeps you in past the rubber spiders and facepaint. I think that's what it was. The third was more of a special effets movie to me. Maybe if they had revealed more earlier about who the enemy was and that he was human? It was only at the very end that they revealed he was human. He seemed pointless to the story like Generic enemy #7 until right at the end when he suddenly was complex.

I enjoyed watching Clark Kent versions, up to the point they added too many freaky stuff

Comics and sci-fi have always been social commentary.

Superman in particular has always been about an undocumented refugee trying to find his place in America.

Yeah, which means doing that wouldn't be as messed up as turning Star Trek into an action flick.

Supes was created by two Jewish writers who were writing explicitly on the experience of being an alien, right?

Since when did comics fans start actively asking for the defanging of comics anyway?
All I hear now is, oh how dare (insert comic here) comment on social issues. And I’m like, they’ve done that for like 80 years now. Wtf?

While I agree with everything about Superman (Thor, real or the Marvel imposter, isn't even that perfect and invulnerable), it's the Marvel thing. Marvel does has some awesome characters, but DC has V, John Constantine, Batman and the Joker, and Harley Quinn.
But, ultimately Marvel does have Deadpool. If it wasn't for Deadpool, DC would have the better characters.

Yeah that’s my biggest complaint. In movies Supes just seems kind of boring and overpowered. A Gary Stu. I mean I like some of them out of nostalgia, but he seems more interesting in the comics.

Haha that’s awesome. But my heart will forever belong to Bats and his “crew.”

I dunno. Into the Spiderverse was awesome imo. Seriously that movie is just *chef’s kiss*
And Miles is similarly awesome. His video game was fun af

That is probably the one interesting thing about Superman. By all accounts and legalities, he is an illegal alien, in every sense of the word possible.
