'A Pakistani court has granted bail to a Christian man convicted in 2018 while still a teenager of insulting Islam by posting a picture of Islam’s holiest site on social media, a defence lawyer said.

The court order in the eastern city of Lahore came more than four years after Nabeel Masih was arrested, at the age of 16, after a mob accused him of committing blasphemy by sharing a picture of Kaaba in Mecca on Facebook.'

In my opinion Nabeel Masih should be compensated for both his lost years in prison and the terror he would have felt at the hands of an unjust system that never should have arrested him in the first place.

Also of course, the blasphemy law itself needs to be overturned.

I don't think this is going to happen any time soon. Pakistan is not a secular country. And regardless of what the man did nor did not do, blasphemy charges are a tool to silence members of religious minorities especially in Islamic countries.

Honestly i dont understand why a photo of the kaaba taken by a teenager should lead to blasphemy when adult proffesional photographer can document the kaaba both in still photo or video without getting punished. ( i know it is a Holy place) but it isn't bad publicly to have a photo online

I think its a pretty loose association with the fact that the kaaba is open only to muslim and that by posting a picture of it, the Christian boy was "violating" the sanctity of the kaaba. Of course, it's just a bad excuse to persecute someone who isn't muslim as is often the case in Pakistan.

Of the info i have about the case i see it more as a human error from Pakistan side than from the boy. If Muhammed was here to see it, i would think he would guide the boy around, telling him about the kaaba and why it is so special to muslims.
Many Christian Holy places are open to anyone to visit, as long people from other faiths have respect and dont damage Holy places, i can't see a problem with their visit.

Bail? He ought to be freed.

That must mean he's still not out of the woods yet.

Free, on bail, convicted, one thing is always there. Till he is a Christian, he will be persecuted, discriminated against. If he becomes a Muslim, then also he will be discriminated against, because most Christians in Pakistan hail from the former lower castes of HIndus that the British converted to Christianity (dalits). Their die is already cast.

No picture of Muhammad, no picture of Kaaba, ... I can see the pattern here.

Seems they are quite obsessed with pictures for a Religion claiming it's followers should not make their own 'Golden Calf'.

They obviously missed the simple truth that obsession is the epitome what they try to avoid

Maybe they feel guilty about their pornography (sex) 'interest' and hope that obsessive prohibition of Spiritual pictures will make Allah grant them a free path on the other things, or even veil the other 'interest'. Allah is a forgiving God after all, I read a few times.

And even Hindu Scriptures tell us to start with 1 thing and do it good, like 'start always speak truth' can change a criminal into a Saint.

I remember that I was doing the same, being quite obsessed in 1 area, while knowing I had many other areas needing attention too, but doing all at once, I just could not do.
