Humans used to not have a problem with wolves, it seems, until we started keeping livestock and came up with the concept of property. So we kill them for attacking our livestock (which is just food to them as they are to us, so it's not fair) or treading on our property. It's a problem created by human insanity. Yes, we should respect wolves more and stop our wanton killing of them.

It is an insanity. This is an animal that has an ecological niche and place to fill as much as anything else in the ecosystems we inhabit. We should be honoring them as the Gods they are, and treating their Spirits with respect. But humans are good at making nothing sacred, ruining our divine connections to the world around us.

The more we populate, the more wild habitat we take over and destroy, run species out of their habitat and/or to extinction. Sadly its just going to keep getting worse.

Wisconsin hunters kill 216 wolves in less than 60 hours, sparking uproar

Wisconsin culls 81% (216) more wolves then slated for culling (119) during their Wolf hunting season. This was in less than 60 hours of th season opening. We should be doing more to protect this Sacred animal and not giving out 3 hunting permits, per wolf allowed for hunting (1547 hunting permits sold).

Gross. The only way I can see realistically doing this is to set aside more land as protected so that wolf and other animal populations can (re)grow and thrive away from human interaction.

"In 1995, wolves were reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park, which transformed the ecology of the area, allowing forests to regenerate and biodiversity to increase. Wolf related tourism also brings $35.5 million annually to Wyoming."

And yes, it's disgusting.

And then you hear all the complaints about the deer taking over everything...

Duh! It wouldn't be a problem if nature was allowed to do its thing... But we(the human species) seem to think we exist outside of nature...

I'd feel honoured to live where there are wolves. We've pushed nature back like it's ours to do with as we see fit. It belongs to us all not just homo sapiens.

It isn't easy to live together but we try. In a state with a population density of 168/km² (compared to 35 for Wisconsin), a tradition of cattle and sheep farming and the wolf just recently having returned to our country, conflicts are expected. But we manage and so do the wolves. Numbers are rising and farmers get educated in herd management. They also get compensated for lost animals.

The Marsican brown bear used to be a succesful species centuries ago.
Now they are desperately trying to save this endangered species. I guess it was man who was scared by this shy, nocturnal animal and contributed to its decline.

Wolves are extremely dangerous animals.
Not as dangerous as deer. I've heard more people are killed or injured by deer collisions in the US than from any other animal interaction.
North American wolves tend to be very wary of humans. People hike and camp in wolf country al the time.

Maybe we need more wolves to keep the deer in check. ;)

I doubt if many of those who hunted the wolves farmed livestock, nor do I think they shot them for meat.

Where are the game wardens? Isn't taking more than the state's bag limit a crime?
If they know how many were taken I'd presume they know by whom.

Not really. They are, in all reality, trying to avoid us more than we them. Under normal circumstances they really want nothing to do with us. I can't blame them.
We need to even the odds some how. Give the wolves a fighting chance. Maybe no guns, bows, crossbows, or anything of the sort. Using nothing more than what nature gave you.
