Could Jesus Have Been A Woman?

Could Jesus have been a woman?

Kind of a two-fold question.

In the middle of the Great Awakening, a group of religious radicals called Moravians came to North America from Germany to pursue ambitious missionary goals. How did the Protestant establishment react to the efforts of this group, which allowed women to preach, practiced alternative forms of marriage, sex, and family life, and believed Jesus could be female? Aaron Spencer Fogleman explains how these views, as well as the Moravians' missionary successes, provoked a vigorous response by Protestant authorities on both sides of the Atlantic. Jesus Is Female | Aaron Spencer Fogleman

Is it possible that Jesus was actually a woman?

Second could God have used a female as easily as a male to die on the cross? Was there a theological reason that Jesus had to be male?

Could jc have been female, i don't know. My view of jesus doesn't suggest so but women can be anarchists/terrorists too.

Why portrayed as male, back then, even now to some extent, men would not listen to a woman, she would have no authority.

There are reasons, but I'm not qualified to explain them. I'll give you a few to think about.

For one thing women don't have penises, and if you recall penises in ancient times represent the macho, warlike, proud aspect of humans. Women can be warlike, but they don't have penises. Generally women aren't considered the source of war. They have other failings, but those failings men also share.

Children, especially sons, are a source of pride for men. Therefore in scripture the first born is often supplanted by the second (possibly) to make the point that pride is not the way. The firstborn are not to be considered superior nor is a man's lineage, his line, to be of consideration. In the book Numbers all firstborn are forfeit (marked for either death or dedication to public service) and must be bought back by their parents. This is called 'Redemption'. In scripture stories several firstborns are replaced by the second born -- a common theme. David, the famous slayer of Goliath, is the least of his brothers. He's called 'Least' because he's the last one born, but he's chosen to be king instead of the better brothers. Another thing is that a feminine man is preferable to a masculine one. Consider how Jacob has feminine qualities but Ishmael has masculine ones. Ishmael is firstborn. Jacob is second born.

Jesus is a firstborn but rather than being redeemed he is killed. His death has some sort of tie in with the discussion about redemption and why its second born and not firstborns and pride and all of that. You'll have a difficult time finding a good explanation. I haven't worked it all out for myself.

Have you read "An Instance of the Fingerpost", by Iain Pears? An Instance of the Fingerpost

Among other things, this novel explores that question.

It seems to me there is no reason, save that, at that time in history, a woman would have had great difficulty cutting through to leave a lasting legacy with humanity.

No, I don't believe so. I had the pleasure of visiting a Moravian church in Honduras. I had never heard that they believe that Jesus was female and really can't find any support other than the title of the book Aaron wrote.

I don't know about the theological reason for it to be through the man called Jesus. Perhaps because it was the man, Adam, that messed it up? Perhaps because God is Father and not Mother?

Who knows... but an interesting question.

i am smart , i will let a woman give that answer

As far as I know, you could have been a woman. Sorry, I know a loaded question for men.

Wonder if it would have been better though if Jesus had been a woman. Might have provided quite a boost to gender equality.

If so, then it was Mary and Joseph's laugh at her expense, giving her a boy's name like that. Kind of like that Johnny Cash song,

Theologically, the Christ is Spirit, so gender is neither or both, or however you wish to relate to it. Jesus just happened to be a male. I see absolutely no other reason a female cannot walk in those same shoes. I think others did in fact, and do. Dying on the cross is a metaphor.

Theory space womb. Theory is Jesus a woman.

Reason to theory science a liar sophism.

So Phi A. Fake female not any female never was a female.

Same quote God is a man as a son of god.

God O stone science correct man statement.
God O stone volcano not a penis released spirit a gas into space.

When you false symbolise self idol..man a human and a scientist by your words then you were proven lying.

Science said no man is God as a scientist.

Son of god just meant gases only owned by earth God not a man. Son of god meant a spirit of a God. Not. Spirit of a man. A teaching after life sacrifice.

Father was the man's status not God.

Adult man however was theist for his own gained sacrificed life.

In heaven, there is no gender because gender is only for reproduction. There is no reproduction in heaven. All the inhabitants of that realm, with the exception of God himself, are created not born.

When God created humans, he created an arrangement whereby the male was the 'President' or head of his company (family) and his wife was the Vice President, or second in command. Children would naturally be subject to their parents, following the pattern that Paul mentioned in 1 Corinthians 11:13...
"But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn, the head of a woman is the man; in turn, the head of the Christ is God."

So in God's arrangement, the male is the head of his household, not in a dictatorial way, but in a way that shows love and consideration for all members of the family....as Christ loved the congregation. (Ephesians 5:25) The man is subject to Christ and Christ is subject to God (ruling out any notion of a triune equality)

In God's family there is headship pertaining to their individual roles....and since the woman is subject to the man, portraying a Jesus as female would have been out of character with this arrangement because God portrays himself as male and refers to his son as such, even though they themselves are genderless in heaven.

Add to that the fact that Adam was a male and that it was his sin that plunged us into this situation in the first place.....a male life was given for an equivalent male life.

For all we really know about Jesus, she could have been a woman, or at least one of the Jesuses Christianity is based upon could have been.
And from the misogyny of the evangelists and the church fathers it is sure they would not have recorded that little detail correctly.

Monsignor Poma, Catholic theologian answered this question by saying this.
Underlining these are just personal opinions, and not the official theological stance of the RCC.
The Gospels offer us archetypes who are still anthropologically unexplored.
The relationship between Jesus and Mary is presented as relationship between man and woman. So Man, despite being in a relationship with a woman, remains anthropologically a son of his woman because he was born from a woman.
Jesus is male because He is the male archetype of God, and represents authority, strength. But Ruach, the Holy Spirit is feminine in Hebrew.
So male and female are both present, but not mutually exclusive.

Back then, in that ancient culture, no one (or very few, anyways) would have listened to a woman...maybe her kids would.

You have evidence of this or is it simply opinion?

You think. So you delegate women to second class because god... i see that as a great reason to question beliefs and morals

But I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; in turn, the head of a woman is the man; in turn, the head of the Christ is God."

Speak for yourself, many men (and women), an increasing number have no such incumberence

So in God's arrangement, the male is the head of his household,

Dream on

Add to that the fact that Adam was a male and that it was his sin that plunged us into this situation in the first place.....a male life was given for an equivalent male life.

We are talking jesus here.

No. Yeshua is male name and nobody would have thought that he was the Messiah if he was a she.
