I've got family there

"People and businesses don't need the state telling them how to operate."
Quite sadly, this pandemic has shown that many people and businesses do need the state to tell them how to operate (provided the state itself is being reasonable in its rules) or they won't act responsibly or safely. Just as a small example, I've met many people who never bother to wear masks anywhere unless a fine or restricted access is imposed for lack of one.
I'd say if the vaccine works (when we get more data and it's been awhile), nix the masks, take care of yourself, and get the vaccine if you feel you need to.
"Removing state mandates does not end personal responsibility and caring for your family members, friends and others in your community," Abbott said. "People and businesses don't need the state telling them how to operate."
You can still transmit the virus, vaccinated or not. And now we have 2 more strains going around. Removing the State mandate gives more people the excuse to not wear a mask because "muh' freedoms" or something rather.
I don't know. But I can guess that what we'll see is more like what we see with the flu - changing vaccinations we get once a year, partial coverage with people still getting sick but the death toll on the order of what we see with the flu now.
In addition, we'll see more emphasis on measures to boost the immune system and hygiene. Some people will also be more likely to wear masks no matter what the government says or does not say.
Right now we have a mess with the CDC saying that people don't need masks under some conditions and stories like this that are much more pessimistic.
Who should or should not wear a mask
Masks should be worn:
By people 2 years of age and older
Any time you are in a public setting
Any time you are traveling on a plane, bus, train, or other form of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations
When you are around people who do not live with you, including inside your home or inside someone else’s home
Inside your home if someone you live with is sick with symptoms of COVID-19 or has tested positive for COVID-19
CDC recognizes there are specific instances when wearing a mask may not be feasible. In these instances, consider adaptations and alternatives.
The following categories of people are exempt from the requirement to wear a mask:
A child under the age of 2 years;
A person with a disability who cannot wear a mask, or cannot safely wear a mask, for reasons related to the disability;
A person for whom wearing a mask would create a risk to workplace health, safety, or job duty as determined by the workplace risk
Outside of very young children and particular work situations, very very few people can't wear a mask of some type. Sure people with COPD, PTSD and a few others can't wear masks Disability Issues Brief: The ADA and Face Mask PoliciesCDC posted a list of reasons why some people shouldn't wear masks.
COVID-19 and Your Health.
I know you guys want every person under the sun to wear masks, but doctors just wouldn't tell people to get any treatment and take any precaution without looking at when it's appropriate and for whom.
Who should and shouldn't wear masks
We could. Not worth worrying over coulds/maybes/risks unless we're in a place where such risks are high.
Masks are being used as hate targets. Social distancing is much more affective, in my opinion. Doctors don't wear masks when they're out the surgery room (or where-ever appropriate). Treatments, medicines, and precautions like masks have their place when appropriate.
The problem would probably be more social distancing. Though, that depends on the area. I went to LO and the population is so small where we went, mask mandates where technicalities at best. NY and LA would most likely be a different story. So, the mask-argument is really useless to fuss over unless, maybe, if we're taking care of someone whose sick or we are sick ourselves. But I'd say social distancing and vaccines would work better than masks-just my opinion.

It's tough when nobody else is co-operating. Masks stop people from spreading it more than they stop people from getting it. Just hope there are some 24 hour stores, and go out a 3 AM.Hopefully, they will take their own precautions.
