'Police suspect that a Muslim man’s conversion to Christianity was the motive behind a stabbing in a Mosta garage on 26 January, with his lawyer arguing that he was living in fear of his assailants, who are on bail.

Simar Halil Hannan, the 26-year-old Syrian man charged with grievously injuring 29-year-old Lamir Mohammad, also Syrian, whom he stabbed in the neck, claims he hit the man by mistake during a fight that erupted at a garage in Triq il-Kappar, Mosta, at around 10pm on 26th January.'

hm.. I was just coming up on a scene on the Vikings show, where a Christian woman was about to be de-nosed for committing adultery.. it seems like things like this have been going on for quite some time

Or.. maybe design a religion that's actually based on updated morals.. and use that as a tool?
Then have to oppose that same new religion should morals be updated even further in the future? It would seem easier to me just to live without the inertia religion adds to morality. There will be enough resistance to change by society even without religion anyway I suppose, but I don't see any reason to add to it.

absolutely..

That's fine.. but when you think about religion, do you notice that most of it seems to have roots in the past, as opposed to stakes in a future? It's more an anchor, than a ship. And what does really resist change? Is it religion, or society, or some combination of both with other things? All things to us, are ultimately just tools.. Even faiths can be argued down to having a tool-like nature. Maybe some things just need updating

These atrocities aren't about religion. They're about control. Men controlling women. Men controlling other men, and justifying it in the guise of religion. Men controlling others instead of themselves.

Some religions are pro control of others, so although I can see it is about control, I see no reason their particular religions shouldn't be implicated

Most religions are not about controlling others. They are about controlling oneself. They are wrongly interpreted to suit the desires of those who seek to control everything and everyone, as if they were the gods. To blame religion is to misdiagnose the problem.

To blame religion in general for the problems of a few religions would be misdiagnosis. But not to blame those particular religions that are about control of others.

Having said that I won't be rushing out to join even one of the non-controlling religions any time soon, as I haven't found one that's right for me.
